The only change I want to make to our split foyer is to sell it and move into literally any other floor plan. We panic bought as rates were going up in 2022. I hated the split foyer concept but my wife liked other aspects to the house. So I held my nose and bought it. Biggest life mistake I’ve ever made. Every day I look at this dump, sigh and say “God I hate this house.”

I didn't know split-foyer homes were a form of split-level... I think to make them distinct would quell some confusion. Split level is typically where the home is split elsewhere, not at the foyer.

When removing the kitchen wall did you guys install a beam across? We have a similar home and we’re trying to figure out how to open up that wall with its existing lally columns

We did install a beam yes! That was the only way to make the open concept work was with a beam😊

These houses were built so cheaply that they couldn’t spend the extra few bucks to put light fixtures in the ceilings. I just can’t imagine that. You’re building the house, it’s all framed up, and for the cost of 20 feet of 14/2 Romex cable and a ceiling electrical box you can put a light in the stupid ceiling, but nope. Too expensive. The whole house was built with that mentality of “what’s the absolute cheapest thing I can get away with?”
