I use Canon software mostly and I haven't figured this out (the only time I've used it was in Instagram's built in editor actually), but what I've been doing is going into the colour settings, and adjusting things based on colour. I also do this in GIMP on files that aren't CR3. I did some pics of myself that a friend took with my camera where I was wearing red and pink, and the background was green. I made the pink and red a little less saturated and lighter to show up less neon, and I made the greens darker to add more contrast. I thought it was really cool, and a lot of fun to play with! I also turned the purple colour more toward the blue since my glasses have purple glare, and I wanted it to look a little more neutral with my blue frames and the green of the environment. It worked, you really don't see the glare as much, just by turning the hue a little! But I do want to see if Canon DPP4 has the shadow tone changes, that would be really cool!

In the Thailand photo, as you mentioned, you also added pink to your face which you liked. But what if I wanted to avoid that? How would I isolate just one portion of the frame during the toning process, even though it's a highlight? Is there a mask that does that in LR? Liked the video a lot, it's very useful for a beginner. Cheers.

This is such a good tutorial, one of the first videos I watched on Lightroom the guy said it’s not something he uses very often, and the curve he creates and S shape in every colour then adjusts by eye. I started off this way and it just did not work for me at all. The split toning is something I use the most to get a really unique look, and for me I don’t find it necessary to adjust all the colors in the curve tone.
@verbal_kint3 жыл бұрын
I actually use split toning a lot. Just like you, what works for me most of the time is blue in the shadows and orange in the highlights. I’ve tried to bring in toning in the midtones but that doesn’t seem to work as good. I’ve also played with different color combos for the shadows and highlights but haven’t found anything I love so far.
@seandalt3 жыл бұрын
Mid-tones is great for changing the global temperature of the image, like making the entire image warmer. But yes, the blue shadows and orange highlights is a solid look and I use it in a lot of my images! Appreciate you taking the time to watch my content and leave a comment man!

@creativevisiongaming3 жыл бұрын
I've used split toning and yes there's things you can only do with split toning but I don't think it was fair to compare adjusting white balance to split toning. Split toning is adding color to highlights and shadows but it's also adding saturation to those colors. You can't just do that with the white balance tool. What you should have done is compared the color adjustments to split toning (or even comparing it to Camera calibration). That would have been a more fair comparison

How do you ensure uniformity in split toning when you have a bunch of images from a similar setting/lighting?
@rachirooooo3 жыл бұрын
I hope this answers your question; there's a Lightroom feature that allows you to copy and paste light/color settings. All you have to do is set your image how you like it and press Ctrl + C (just like you would copy a paragraph or sentence on an article.) Then you find the next photo you want to have those color settings and press Ctrl + P. I'm pretty sure this does not replicate radial or linear gradients, though, so you'll still have to modify those individually.
