So they will move nector out of the brood nest? And they say you can give them to much room but when nector is flowing it's must I see. There is a huge flow where I am the bees cant draw out cells quick enough before it's getting packed had to order more boxes and frames tonight. I am excited and I only have 5 hives.

How does a queen push back the nectar as she establishes her nest? My colonies (5 hives), over the years all my brood boxes seem to become honey bound. Right now, I have a hive that has two brood boxes backfilled with honey with small patches of brood. I have a queen excluder and a third box on top. The hive has tons of bees, but they are not moving the honey from the bottom two to the third on top. I am open to suggestions from all.

I myself am running into this every now and then with stronger hives. My thinking is that I didn't equalize them enough, or that I didn't add space in time allowing them to continue that upward push. I have noticed sometimes for whatever reason they won't go through a queen excluder. You could try removing the excluder for a week or so and then shake the bees back down putting the excluder back on.

@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog The box on top is practically empty. It has been there for 8 days. The bottom boxes are heavy as lead. last weekend, I did remove 7 frames of capped honey from the two brood boxes.

What I mean is, open that space up over the nest. That second brood box (and excluder) is holding everything down .

@@HaUsSssss Same thing happens to me. I end up taking out capped frames from the brood box. I have also removed the excluder, but within 5 days the queen is up there laying. I then replace the excluder after placing the queen below. I always smile when I hear commercial beekeepers say the bees relocate the honey above as the queen expands the nest. I am always left with the question, What the heck am I doing wrong?

Ian- I love your videos! Can you give an explanation of your bee yards and the farm / ranch? How many acres do you have? How many bee yards do you have? How far away from each other are the bee yards? You mention from time to time elevation differences between yards- what is the highest and lowest elevations? How do you decide where on your land to put a bee yard? Do the bee yards move throughout the year? A description of the physical layout of your operating would be helpful. Thanks!

Do you ever see much production off of soy beans? I feel like we get a decent crop off of it, but I've heard that they only produce nectar when it's right around 85F

Aloha Ian , Thanks for all the insights and life experience . I was wondering what you are using to keep the girls inside the hive bodies when you transport to a new area ? We use a folded screen . If you pull a capped brood frame or two into the super above the excluder will that encourage the bees to move into the upper chamber and bring nectar to surround the brood frame ??

Curious as to what brand bee jacket you wear and all things considered, if it's well ventilated? Before I spend my money, I'd like to know what a professional wears. Where do you buy yours? Thanks!
