I just have one yard. The first place I look as I approach my bee yard is to see if that damn bear has been there, even though mine are fenced. Then, I glance toward my skunk trap. And, when i get close, I'm always looking up in the trees. There is a lot of things to think about. Thanks again.

In the past, I’ve seen descriptions of rapidly drying wet honey in a hot room with several consumer dehydrators. Lots of air moved around. If I recall, 2% + in 12~24 hrs. Consistent warning to monitor closely because easy to miss and end up overdry Hypothetically, you could set escape boards w/empty’s beneath today, ~ after 2 nights, pull /move wets to fans-on hot room w/dehydrators. According to the theory, from there should be extracting after 24~48hrs
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog5 жыл бұрын
Basher Yes, I’ve done this also but once I start pulling, my process doesn’t stop to allow drying, cycle in cycle, out . Might as well let the bees do it, and bring on fuller boxes to boot

Hi Ian, at the beginning of this video you mentioned that you were mixing a few thousand pounds of protein mix for patties on the hives in mid to late August. How do you store this mixture for that long with fear of contamination or spoiling? Do you have a way to refrigerate or freeze the pollen patty mix until you use it?
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog5 жыл бұрын
Glen Copeland Good question The chef has that figured within the mix. Don’t ask me, I just stir that pot 🙂

Our flow from the Linden tree here in The Netherlands is at its end, then the harvest time here is over. I think I can pull 30 kilos from 2 hives. Already harvested 13 kilos from the dandelions. There are 3 main flows here: dandelion, acacia tree and linde tree. Acacia we depend on temperature above 20 Celsius.

Hello Ian! Thanks for the great informative videos, learn a lot. Just a question I had and just had to ask; would the licking off of the honey affect the moisture content of your next reading? Also, how much honey do you estimate you harvest off the canola crop, say per acre?

Ian, I have a question. A friend of mine says sometimes the bees move eggs from the brood area below the queen excluder and into the honey super area. Have you ever experience brood above the queen excluder. This is assuming the queen is large and she is below the excluder. Basically, I am asking, do bees move eggs?

I personally watched some nurse bees "catch" an egg coming out of the queen. And then about 30 seconds later another bee took another egg. But a thunderstorm was coming, I put it back together and could not see it again. I do not know what they did with the eggs. They were well fed, so I do not think they were cannibalizing the eggs. I still am curious what was going on.
