Do you use pro nuc boxes and if so do you get a good return rate with virgin queens?
@pauldow16482 жыл бұрын
Big project. Thanks for sharing. Question. When might you use oxcylic acid or strips while doing these splits - if you see evidence varroa.
@queencolonybeeco.73632 жыл бұрын
All the colonies I split from just finished Apivar treatments so these bees are pretty clean. When splitting with queen cells I do like to give an oxalic acid vapor treatment 3 weeks after making split when there is minimal capped brood present.

Can the ez nuc boxes stay out in weather?

what brand are the plastic nuc boxes and how do thry hold up for you?

In another video you replied you will not be using the Pro Nuc, have you figured out how to keep them alive in the Pro Nuc boxes? I currently have lost 2 colonies using the Pro Nucs, but I want to make sure it wasn’t user error. I think I oversees one colony and they left. The second could have died from over heating because I had the vent closed, and Im in south Texas, similar to Florida weather

I’m just using up the ones I have for nuc sales as a starter and transportation box that the customers keep. I can get away with using them in early spring before it gets too hot here. Come summertime they’re worthless.
@time2fly2124 Жыл бұрын
pro nuc boxes are definitely prone to overheating, my first year i did some splits with them, but the summer sun cooked alot of the brood that i gave them. after that, i put a sheet of plywood over top to shield them from the sun.

Do you put the gallon jug of syrup on top of the plastic nuc box
@queencolonybeeco.73632 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Jesters EZ Nucs already have a hole on top and I drill a hole in the Pro Nucs lids because I don’t like the feeding system built into them.

@@queencolonybeeco.7363 what size drillbit do you use do you drill into the bucket lid and do you drill a hole in nuc box and how long do you feed the split
@queencolonybeeco.73632 жыл бұрын
@@GODWINHONEY not Sutherland exact size but it’s the smallest drill bit in my set. It depends on nectar flow but I’ll usually feed until box is just about full of bees and drawn comb.
