It is definitely a top 3 as far as difficulty in splitting species, but the Axis handled it without a problem

Hello Mike, that Sycamore sure is a pain in the butt to split. Sounds cool though. Your first wood you were in concern of what it was definitely Chinese Elm. Your mystery bonus point wood was Osage Orange. Thanks for the shout, brother.👊🏻

@@KNLFirewood The Osage looks cinda like are madrone at 30.9 million btu per cord. It's mostly down closer to California.

By procuring all the material for HFH here before the event, lets me ensure it will be easier cutting on the day of. Cutting tree service drop offs is OK but this should go so much smoother!

It might be chestnut oak . When sawn into lumber it looks like white oak. The bark doesn't look like red oak to me. Hard to say without actually looking at it 😊

I stay away from sycamore. My kinetic splitter wouldn’t like it!! For bonus points I’m guessing locust or maybe Osage orange which folks around here call “Bodock”. Your ending made me laugh!! 😂

Well Mike you still have the Axis. I figured that would be gone by now. That sycamore does make a lot of noise. I have never cut or split sycamore. The insect you showed sure looks like a bumble bee. The one with the longer wings may have been a queen . They sure looked huge.

Axis is still here. I have had some interest. No takers yet. Sycamore is pretty tough stuff. Not a whole lot of fun to split either🤣. If it's got wings and a stinger I'm not really comfortable around them.

I know! I'm gonna have to buckle down. Plan is to have my father-in-law come over a run the grapple while I buck a bunch of rounds. Once they are in rounds the 24D will make quick work of them.

Thats not bald headed hornets. those things are darn fliying war bugs with wings. They dont give a flip. Its some other flying turd.. . The little things can literally sence fear in a person, dont act as a scared person, and they usually leave yea alone. . I've been around people running around like crazy chickens, and im standing still, i usually dont get stung. They get the shiz stung out of em.

To the best of my knowledge yes. Like all bees I think they can sting once. Hornets can sting multiple times. I've never been stung but have heard it's painful. @@KNLFirewood

@@KNLFirewoodI meant never been stung by carpenter bee, was stung when young playing with bumblebees. Usually bees don't bother me. They fly by me and sting someone else, crazy right,my buddies don't understand why either. I think it's because I don't get excited by them and they can see it or sense it. I have many stories about it,lol.
