My grandpa had an 8430 for a while, he had a lot of engine trouble with it. He bought it with 2100 hours on it, he said when he bought it he was told that at 1400 the original engine had been replaced. At 2800 hours the engine let go again. He got it back together ran it for a while and broke a crankshaft in it. Finally put it back together and sold it. I don't know if it was turned up from stock or not it was before my time. He was told that Deere was trying to squeeze too much power out of too small an engine. The few I have seen advertised around here all have been repowered. Thanks for the video John! Hope you have a Merry Christmas

I bought an 8630 from a dealer that was brought in for a clutch problem. Dealer said low clutch pressure and quoted over 12k. I bought it as is (cheap) and split it. Clutch looked fine, finally discovered when they put a new filter on, they split the rubber gasket on the filter and a chunk went into the valve body, cutting off oil supply. I went through a lot of work for nothing, but I know what I have now. Also, seemed low on power, and a youtuber, maybe you suggested I check for a hole in the steel air pipe that goes to the pump. Sure enough, the clamp rubbed a hole!

While the engine is out, consider fish plating the inside of the frame with some 3/4" plate steel. The engine is solid mounted, and these are noted for twisting the engine block in a hard pull. Anything you can do now to beef up the frame will lead to longer engine life. The Kinze Cummins conversion addressed the issue with an entire new sub frame and a pad mounted engine. Deere really screwed the original owner of these tractors, many engine failures at around 2,500 hours. They did have a program for a complete engine replacement, however. If I were in your situation, I would definitely be looking for a place to add rigidity. Either by boxing in the frame, or bolting plate to the outside of the frame, with a lip to roll over on the horizontal top rail. Maybe add a cross member ahead of the engine below the hydraulic pump.

Operated a 8640 with the 50 series engine for years and years.. it was a great tractor. I did many tasks from pushing silage to discing . Pulled a plow with ease .. only once did we have to adjust the cable for the quad range. Other than that it was flawless.. I loved it..

Really enjoy your shop videos. Have you ever rebuild the lift cylinders on a 3155? They have the spring clip on the back side of the ram only accessible through the hose port. How in the word do you get it back on after you put new seals in ???

I would be interested to hear your input on the investment verses the benefits of an enclosed shop, especially in the winter. My dad only had an open ended shed and I think the value of equipment was not kept up as well as working in the elements.

Are the 8560 series tractors easier to work on, I've had thoughts of getting an 8760 over the years, grain cart and what the hell, put it on my strip till. Takes some power in some ground😆

So much easier to drive and more comfortable! An 8760 with 12 speed stick is a great tractor. There is an 8870 over here a farmer is selling, 42k is what he I asking. The only thing we have seen real bad is the circuit board in the cab can go bad, have seen fan switches melt. Otherwise like any tractor, anything can break

@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 Ok, I didn't know much about them other than I got a toy 8760 on my shelf I got when they first came out😆 Looks like the transmission is in the front half? There's an 8760 south of here with the 12 speed powershift, 3 point and PTO with 6600 hrs, good rubber for 44,000, I was thinkin pretty hard about it for end of year but went on to the co-op and gave them all my money again 🤷‍♂️🤣🤣 Is an 8870 still the deere 619 motor?

I remember when they come out with the 8430 and 8630 some guys would say the 7020 and the 7520 were better tractors then when the 40 series came they said they were alot better. I heard to that they like to put the 50 series in the older tractors.
