We all use it now and then in this family from truck engines to tractor and go cart motors. Been taken apart so many times the paint is off around the bolt holes. Both engine stand almost always got and engine and need to move it to fix the next. Love it and watching here.

We always use a seat belt for pulling engines in the junkyard. Works like a champ. Just run it from engine mount to engine mount. I made this comment before they used that little piece of one. Just cut a nice long piece and tie it through the mounts or bolt it with the mounts bolts.

For a junkyard motor you always want a vehicle like that that’s been wrecked because they have less mileage on average by far than the clean exterior ones that have already blown and are there for that reason. Good pick guys, she’s up to the test for a while.

You guys need a travel lift setup at the shop. Two steel I beams running in one direction that wheels run on welded to another beam so it looks like this "H". You putt a chain hoist that can take some serious weight on more wheels that run on the beam that travels so you can swing it around the shop and use it anywhere you need it.

Hey you guys know what you're doing however, one thing I'd just point out to look at, check the piston to wall clearance first because after honing for the fresh set of rings you may not have to gap the rings all that much. The honing may take another .001" off the piston to wall gap (maybe not even that much but it will increase it slightly). If it's already excessive (the P2W gap as it sits before hone) for the bore size and piston size, on top of having a looser ring gap you'll end up having a ton of blow by and be down on power a little bit because of it (remember cast pistons don't expand like your fordged internals do so it won't be closing the gap up that much). But knowing you guys and for as cheap as you're in this motor specifically, you can always compansate with MORE BOOST! lmao! Anyhoot, HELL YEA BROTHER! Can't wait to see Ruby ripping and being a savage again!
@kithylin
@kithylin 6 жыл бұрын
They have to gap em for high boost.
@WickedMoto
@WickedMoto 6 жыл бұрын
@@kithylin Yes i get that, im not saying not too. I am saying that if there's already excessive p2w clearence, ontop of honing (which does remove material and further increases it slightly), they may not have to gap it as much. Why do you think an engine with high milage has blow by in some cases? Because over time, the p2w clearence becomes so excessive that with, now essentially, a larger bore diamtere by even .002"-.003" of an inch, will increase the ring gap. So if you started at say a .017" ring gap on a freshly bore/honed block, you could now have .020" ring gap with a higher mileage engine. Thus increasing the ring gap and increasing your blow by. So hence my message in saying why they should at least check it first and see what the P2W gap, and the ring gap as it sits (and they're going to have to file fit the new rings anyways, this i know, i'm speaking to what measurement they would go to with the new rings), ontop of them wanting to use a ball hone (which will take more metal off the cylinder walls), if they just gap them to what a ring manufacturer would want you to in the sheet that comes with piston rings, it may be too much, causing even more blow by. Then they would have to increase the boost substantially to get back to the same power level. Ontop of that, it would greatly increase crankcase pressure and that's not what you want. That's all I'm saying. Also note that cylinder out of round is a thing as well and that can cause more blow by as well because now the rings dont have a perfect seal if it's in excess.

the 5.3 with the cable driven throttle is a pre flex fuel making it a LM7 and flex fuels where L59 motors. LM7's are more desirable for small engine modding cause the flex fuel system can be obnoxious to work around for small upgrades and swapping a LM7 is easier with less sensors and low pressure fuel system that can mod existing pumps to run it

I would have gone for an LQ4. Same as the LQ9 but lower compression. With a turbo lower might be better. They both are 6.0L engines. The important thing here is that they have a 4.00 inch bore. This allows you to use the later heads with bigger valves and the rectangular ports rather than the cathedral ports. That said invest in a set of ARP rod bolts, crank studs, and head studs for this engine
