POTENTIAL OIL PRESSURE SOLUTION: It's a definite possibility the low oil pressure is just the pickup tube gasket. On these older 5.3 blocks, that gasket flattens out over time and draws in air, lowing your oil pressure. I've seen high mileage LS engines with 15 lbs at idle, go to 30 lbs, just by replacing that gasket. And that was on a motor with 150k miles! Hope this helps.

You guys make me so happy I bought my modest Nissan Leaf (that will 'smoke' most ICE cars off the line). It is missing all the 'stuff' you constantly work on perfecting: bearings, gaskets, rings, connecting rods, high-lift camshaft, low oil pressure ! ! ! It has one moving part . . . . . . . . a rotor. The other part is called a stator ('cause it 'stays' ! -doesn't move-) SO, I enjoy your channel immensely giving me all the thrills, extra maintenance, complicated engine rebuilds when you blow them up, figuring and calculating why it isn't 'up to snuff', changing plugs, oil, gaskets, piston rings, bearings, . . . . etc. . . that an internal combustion engine can provide ! What a thrill it is to me when I go to the garage, look at my (bug/insect looking) vehicle and realize my 'maintenance requirement' is . . . . . . windshield washer fluid. Does it need to be 'topped-up' ? ? ? ? How boring. I 'get' why you race these antiques and spend exorbitant amounts of money in doing so ! ! ! ! ! ! What FUN ! ! I do not get that fun with my Leaf. It is boringly reliable, maintenance-free, space-ship smooth. THANK YOU for your entertaining channel that I have revisited multiple times now! Best wishes, Rich

The oil pressure most likely fluctuates because of overfill. Air bubbles are usually whipped into the oil by the crank if you fill too high, causing erratic oil pressure. If the baffles are removed it might get even worse if it allows oil to be slung up in the rotating assy'. Check out engine masters oil-level test they did. -They got the most stable oil pressure on the dyno, having really low oil level. (like 5qt in a 8qt pan)

Hello Cleetus! I have a comment that will most definitely help your goal. Identify the bottom of your piston ring travel, tape off the cylinder wall above that and sand in up and down motions. Do this until the cylinder is almost polished, but you can still see the honing marks. Why? you may ask. The piston skirt is softer than the cylinder and gets eaten by it. The result by this very overlooked procedure is dramatic! You get less power robbing friction, longer lasting piston fitment meaning longevity and more crank turning energy that isn't being put into the crankcase in the form of blowby. The lack of "piston rock" allows the rings to seal and lock up in the cylinder wall causing catastrophic failure. I hope this helps you. I almost forgot use 400 grit sandpaper!

@@1986z28owner 100% correct! I just about choked when i read that. I hope he's just trolling. @@jvracingvids6529 you realize it doesn't matter what the block is made out of. A big block Chevy is a big block Chevy no matter if it's aluminum or cast. A truck motor is as much as an LS as a Corvette motor. They are bolt up to each other and everything on them is interchangeable. A ls7 cam would fit in a 4.8 work truck motor. A LS 9 head would bolt right up to a lq9. The material doesn't matter the design does.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but it isn't a good thing to run heavier weight oil to try and raise oil pressure. The bearings require X amount of flow to drag heat away from the bearing, and by adding viscosity without the proper increase in bearing clearance, you significantly reduce the flow of oil across the bearing. If you feel like you have to run heavier weight oil, open up the rods and mains by a thousandth. Nascar is keeping them together for 500 miles running low pressures and in some cases, 0 weight synthetics. I would run GM specified 5W30 ( good brand ) and so long as you can keep around 30-40 Lbs pressure, you shouldn't hurt the bearings.
