Idaho has some of the most serious rapids in the USA.....Got to give respect to GM for those LSA marine power plants....They are pretty AWESOME in those boats. Those boats impress me more in low water conditions getting up shallow streams that seem an impossible task.....The term "SEND IT!" comes quickly to mind when navigating a river in a full size Jet Boat. I made a hard right cut into a 3-4’ wake at probably 40-50mph and when i hit the wake i was flying with the birds until the wind nosed the front of the board down and i had no time to prepare for the impact, i woke up to EMTs all around me wondering wtf happened. Airboats are often used for extreme water rescues. We had one growing up in NY. Yankee Airboat Company. We had a 1.5" teflon armor plate the full length underneath and side armor. It was built for rapids and ice rescues. They actually do quite well in rapids since their propulsion isn't in the water at all. So other than drag itself, water speed is irrelevant. If you ever watched or do watch the movie "Chain Reaction" with Keanu Reeves, he drives a Yankee Airboat across the frozen lake. Very very similar to the one we had. Ours didn't have the rescue equipment always on it. We did have it, in case it was needed. The towns around us knew of the boat and would sometimes call us for a true emergency.
@huh42332 жыл бұрын
I watched the BLM pull 2 of those things off trailers at the Cisco Boat Launch, on the Colorado River, and drive strait up the whitewater at 2 a.m. to rescue some rafters that were stranded in a very steep walled part of the canyon, right on the Colorado/Utah border. All you could see were the spotlights, and hear these V-8's opening up as they forced their way up the river till the sound disappeared. 3 hours later, here they come with everyone cold, but alive!
@supra1jzed2 жыл бұрын
@@huh4233 yeah, they are virtually unstoppable and can take severe hits with the armor plating. One winter we were out on the St Lawrence to screw around on the ice. First, if you wanna know pants shitting speed in a "normal" boat... airboat on ice with Teflon armor. Fuck. But we hit a jagged falt line and absolutely sent the boat. It gouged the Teflon about 2" wide and 1/2" deep. The hull itself was unscathed and all of our kidneys were on a short paincation. We pounded up and against rocks in rapids, beaches... basically whatever the F we wanted. But with propulsion being airborne, the water could be doing 60mph and we could probably still easily achieve 40mph. Going up river in the channel it was actually faster than the Sea-Doo jet boat we also had. Down river the Sea-Doo had us by several MPH. 10-15 I'd guess.

Cleet collected the trophy for Rocky Mountain Week right at the end of the last video mate! He spoke so highly of the event, really humble words.

If I was riding in one of those boats, when I got out I would have said I want to speak to the manager about the poor conditions conditions that these boats were put into..... I mean is just so ridiculous🤣😅😁

I'm actually kinda scared to watch them turn around and go back down stream, upstream is one thing, but I imagine to maintain any kind of control they must have to FLY downstream ahead of the current - I guess I'm about to find out! (unless someone else drove the trailers to an upstream launch to pick them up) EDIT: THAT WAS INSANE! also that side-by-side shot at 22:09 really shows you how fast they're going downstream
@robertheinkel62252 жыл бұрын
So very true. Down river is harder to maintain steering in fast water

All the way to Big Falls! That is impressive! Suprised there were not more logs going by. Fires upstream in past years and avalanches have put major wood in the water. Having rafted those sections it always amazes me how many ways there are to enjoy our rives. Your boats must be reinforced to hold your giant set of balls.

I think a "Florida Man" shirt with a "Florida Man License" card, a mini-jetboat, a ripsaw, and an air boat would be a cool addition to your merch line. Oh, and I love that you keep your language pretty clean, unlike a lot of other content creators! Thank you for that!

I can assure you, Idaho whitewater gets a lot gnarlier than that. That's the South Fork of the Payette River. Fun run for sure, but not particularly hardcore.
