I was an only child, and somewhat indulged, so I was a bit shocked that once I had left school and got a job, my mother charged me rent on my own room, with added fees for feeding and cleaning. Still, as she said, it showed me how much it would cost me to live in the real world, and if I did my chores, I got a reduction. It also was a happy surprise that a couple of months before I left home to get married she presented me with the bank book which showed all my contributions. Quite a healthy amount which actually paid a fair proportion of the down payment on our first home. Thanks Mum.

Yeah he buys them things they need, but like, regular car, like a ford or a fiat. Things like phones, clothes and laptops they had to get jobs to afford. I think he's done that part right at least. I went to undergrad with someone that would complain about her $400 weekly allowance and how "it just wasn't enough" (note: her parents paid for rent, utilities, etc, the $400 was all "extra" outside of normal living expenses). I told her she is welcome to get a job if she'd like extra spending money, she didn't appreciate my advice. I also had a friend complaining that her parents will not be paying for her schooling past her bachelor's degree. She was just acting super disgusted that they wouldn't pay for more school for her and she'd have to figure out how to do it herself. I was all "well, I'll take the bachelor's degree paid off if that isn't good enough for you, because I am currently around $50k in the hole and I'd happily and gratefully take anything anyone is willing to give." He told me that all he heard in his house was his parents argue about money and that the only reason his area was still affluent is that most people who lived there had inherited their big houses from their parents, grandparents etc and didn't have to pay mortgages as most of the houses were already paid for and that most of the wealth was just a show. Being her roommate was exhausting partly because I was so anal about being clean, but she had yet to learn how to do do her own laundry 🙃, so sometimes I came off as bitchy and she came off as lazy and entitled. My parents were the opposite: low class and had me learning how to care for myself and my home (chores) by the time I was 7/8yrs old. I hated it at the time, but thanked them later. It is amazing how perception is when we were younger. I thought those that had new clothes, involved in sports, had a lot to eat or even a dollar in their pocket as spoiled. All grown up I can see how many may have had all they needed, which is what I was lacking, but they were not actually spoiled and worked hard for where they are now. I appreciate everything and take nothing for granted, but neither do they. I see no one in any different financial state as different than me, because most of us still grew up with the same values. Maybe I just dont have the mentality to feel sorry for myself. No one should apologize for their parents financial ability or their own as they earned it. But, unfortunately there are those that were not raised with those values, are entitled and think the world owes them. 99% of people are good, humble and work hard. I married into a wealthy family (old money). I had no clue. Not one. And I'm not stupid. My husband lived on a budget in a tiny studio apartment. He worked two jobs (I assumed it was because the area in which we lived at the time was quite pricey). He drove a Chevy. Wore jeans, polos, sneakers and a black digital watch. A typical guy. I would clip coupons for restaurants and always suggested we go Dutch. Honestly, between my alimony, child support and job, I thought I was better off financially than he was! After we were married the secrets began to spill- slowly. After our child was born a big secret was revealed. A trust fund for the little guy. Hubby and I agreed not to tell him (until the time is right). He has worked since he was 15. Paid for his first car and insurance himself (still does). I let my husband discuss the college tuition details with our son and only asked, " Tell me what to say if he can't reach you". I want no part of it. It's not my money. I don't want the responsibility. It belongs to my husband, his family, and our son. We have taught him to live on a budget, save, and invest which he does very well. We gave him everything he NEEDED, some wants, and a few little luxuries to which he would later ask, " Can you afford this?". I simply told him I "saved for it". We also taught him the difference between chores and jobs; one you do because you're part of a household and the other is above and beyond that (like vacuuming out my car). I would much rather pay him to do it than go to a detailing place. Somehow we managed to raise one helluva kid.

We literally had to throw car in neutral and push it back. When it rained, we were screwed. Roll drivers window down, reach out and manually move wipers. Tow trucks would pull over and wait for us. It was our only set of wheels. It amazingly got us places. We will always have memories that crack us up. We met a lot of guys with this car. Before our ride, it was a skateboard & before that, we used my aunty’s tandem & her daughter’s one speed bike. One Christmas, my grandma bought us 10 speed bikes. I never got to ride mine cause I was and still am, too small. My cousin used it.

1964 Plymouth station wagon given to me by my stepfather. Helped him replace the head gasket and starter motor to get it running. I loved that car. V8, three on the tree and had to duct tape a piece of 4x4 to the clutch pedal so I didn't grind the gears (I'm 4'11"). Best car I ever had.

@Kelpie that's true. I struggle but when I can, I donate to causes I believe in... a dollar here, five there. Places like Covenant House, since they helped me so much when I was a 14-year-old runaway. I like to do what I can. I'm scrapping up cash right now for a full dental extraction (long story) but then see people like this who literally throw money away and don't appreciate anything they are fortunate enough to have. It's sad and disheartening to witness that kind of stuff.

I don't believe they are rich. Don't let it get to you. They do this just to make people think they are rich but really they've only got 10's and 20's and some pics of cars that are probably not their own.

@GenXfrom754 жыл бұрын
@@kimmyball4961 it's fine. I figured why not, seeing as how I saw some woman out there who actually raised thousands for an abortion... sickening. Doesn't hurt to give it a shot. With the amount of absolute pain I'm in, I needed hope. Dental pain is the WORST pain and I can understand why some people feel a deep desire to be done with life when it NEVER stops. I think it's only okay if the kid chooses it themselves, at say 16 or whenever you go to high school/college. A child shouldn't be raised by teachers, it should be done by parents

@@isachan0o844 yeah say some would like it... It depends on what home life is like... But personal I wouldn't want to send my son to a boarding school ... Shouldn't have kids if you're not going to raise them yourself... A child needs to feel love and wanted....

Yeah, I spent about 1 1/2 years in a boarding school, ended up running away, went home and told my dad that I wasn't going back. So he sent me to live with his cousin, it wasn't bad, as his house was right on the beach
