Brilliant stuff. This was 11 years after my Dad left the railway (fireman and second man at March) and a year after we moved from March to Peterborough. Loved going round the depot and yard with him. Any more from March?

When you see the tractive effort (as well as think about the logistics effort) of using a Class 31 to haul 7 cars then you can so see why Class 158s etc. etc. became so attractive to the railways even then. Amazing footage though, March is a lovely station I have to say these days. PS. 11:26 - wonder where all those Ford Sierra's are now?!

March was a mecca! Got to March by train from Peterboro; went round the depot and straight back to Peterbroro - wish now I spent the day on the station!

8.45 man cant resust shiny 50p coin in ballast lol. Saw all sorts discarded on embankments when i was on Pway. Great days,,, Semaphores and Diesels. Great collection of vids your supplying us. Thank you. 👍👍😎😎😎

went there a few times in the 70's usually got round the depot. I remember once about a dozen spotters got a cab ride in a 47 along the Spalding platform which sadly is trackless today

The Norwich to Brummie came about from the loss of freight and parcel business from the rail strikes of 1972. The railway suddenly had a lot of unused locomotives. Why don't the railway unions and their members ever learn
