Lovely grandma sure has a big passion for baking. Apparently, she enjoys every moment of her baking session, peppering it with her joyful singing. Without the aid of modern kitchen/baking equipment like the KitchenAid and oven, she does it HER way to create her very own signature cake. Just look at her face beaming with pride at the end result. BC99 I'm sorry to disappoint you, but scales and techniques are there for a reason! When it comes to baking precision and accuracy are the keys! There are certian prameters in baking that you have to respect! You have to consider the ratio of eggs to butter, butter to flour, temperature of you're oven..etc. Add a little bit extra sugar or butter and that could ruin the whole thing! You can't undermine Euorpean chefs for being precise! I can tell you this cake has some baking technical errors! 1) She added way too much baking powder and baking soda and this could result in a bitter taste. 2) She whisked the dough batter for too long that it developed the gluten (protein) in the flour! You can see the open texture of the cake when they cut through it! It has a rubbery texture and you can see how it looks like a loaf of bread! 3) if you noticed the top of the cake has wholes in it and that was due to the vapour condensation on the lid she used the water vapour falls back onto the cake creating that texture, and that's due to not using an oven as it will gurantee an even distribution to the heat therefore better baked goods! I admir her ability to produce such cake with the lack of technique and needed proper baking facilities, but we should also respect the fact the European bakers and pastry chefs use scales and techniques for a reason not to show off!
