I was never annoyed or confused by the ending. When I was a kid, I first saw it together with my dad. We talked about it, and it was very obvious that they wouldn't actually video record the reveal of the formula, in case the tape gets stolen or something like that.

Yes the episode actually ends like that the only difference is that the announcer after spongebob shakes his head to asking if he is ready to make a krabby patty. Then the announcer just says. "Okay the secret formula is.." then the announcer cuts off. The screen goes black and it's off to the credits. I watched this episode when I was a kid so.

people sometime see different format episodes like this and think its weird but if every ep was the same these shows would not be as remembered ...changing your style up every once in a awhile can be beneficial for a show that resets after the 12 minute vinnete is over literally resets within an episode...look at simpsons having the treehouse of horrors and 22 short films and 138th spectacular...not every one hits but its nice to see effort...these are comedy shows so they don't have to follow a tone or style ...this creative liberty is necessary with little restrictions for gags ..now everything is too sensitive and restrictive format wise
