SpongeBob's STRANGE New Spin-off (Kamp Koral)

After a couple months of trying to put this video together, it is finally here! Kamp Koral, the first official SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off series has release a handful of it's first seasons episode on Paramount Plus so I thought it would be fun to look at what the show has to offer!

@@JordanFringe94 Funny enough, I watched and generally enjoyed Baby Looney Tunes. The theme song was the most memorable and I loved the episode where they introduced baby Marvin as the "foreign exchange student who has a different way of doing things" sort of storyline. In the end, Bugs and co. learned that Marvin wasn't bad or good compared to them by doing things differently from them; it just made him interesting, so they all learned from each other. I like that sort of thing. ^^

I do find it interesting how this show has a different animation studio compared to Sponge On The Run. The movie was animated by Mikros Images (who worked on the Captain Underpants movie). This series is animated Technicolor in India (whose other works include Sonic Boom and the 2015 Alvin And The Chipmunks show).

Sonic Boom season 1's animation was really stiff though. Season 2 they changed it to OuiDo. But i think they've improved since then, the animation in Kamp Koral looks alright,

Jimmy Neutron has aged very well, while the CGi is average in today's standards, it holds up somewhat not to mention the comedy is like a fine wine that gets better with age. Apart from certain extras, the characters are very well designed too.

I think especially in kids shows spin off should be a no no. The only kids show spin off that I liked was All Grown Up and I think it's specifically because I got to see how ALL the characters I know and loved progressed. Other spin offs cut out beloved characters and replace with people we don't care about to take their place. Not only that but baby spin offs, instead of showing progression, take us steps backwards when no one ever wanted that. Like the dreaded Total Dramarama. Who would want that? Plus baby spin off usually ruin canons as evident by this video.

The showrunners are a mix of series veterans (Doug Lawrence, Kaz, and Vincent Waller) and newer writers (Andrew Goodman and Marc Ceccarelli, who joined the show in season 8, and Luke Brookshier, who joined in season 4).

The animation in this isn't horrible, but it's a peeve of mine when, in 3D animation, they just make the character's whole body bob a little every time they move to hide how stiff their movements are. This show does that a little but not as bad as some do. They also do a thing that often comes with it where their movements are extremely fast and sudden.

It’s really sad Spongebob has gone past 5 seasons. Krabs is much older than Spongebob. Don’t marine animals look different in their early stages? Sandy leaves her parents and ends up by herself? I think it was rude that they saw an opportunity to basically run the show to the ground after Stephen died. Stephen was absolutely right. Most cartoons are best during a 4 season run. Rugrats, Doug, Hey Arnold, Angry Beavers, Rockos Modern Life, Fairly Odd Parents. All the best seasons at the most are 1-5. Then. Nickelodeon gets greedy. They force that show to run for what 17 years now? Aren't the voice actors tired? I notice that later episodes past season 5 almost every other episode features krabs and Plankton now. There's been some complaints that characters like Sandy aren't even on as much and that Larry just vanished.

Personally I think 3d is cheaper to make. The once you built the foundation everything can be puppeteered and 3d tools can help you randomize things.

I found that as the episodes went on they got more and more like the main show, in tone and visuals. The characters were starting to look, sound and act more like their normal selves, it was almost as if the writers/storyboard artists started getting into a groove and forgot they weren’t just working on the main show. The most noticeable visual aspect is definitely spongebob himself, if you look at the first episode, he’s definitely a lot pudgier than normal, but he looks almost completely normal in the tag episodes. They also seemingly forgot to give spongebob his cap.

I honestly love the animation of Kamp Koral, im gonna be honest. I love spongebob but its a nightmare to get through the recent seasons of regular spongebob bc the animation is too bright and too expressive for no reason, i prefer season 1-3 and 4-9 animation but when it started having a weird expression every half a second it became too much for me. Kamp koral seems like a mix to me that i enjoy.

I didn’t know this show existed (don’t have Paramount Plus) but I’m intrigued now. Having not seen the movie either, it’s odd to me that there are so many differences between the two. Makes me curious to watch it all. Even only seeing this video to judge, I think I understand where you’re coming from in terms of the animation looking really nice, but the style holding some aspects of the show back in comparison to how it’s always translated to 2D animation. I've come to realize that I no longer have the ability to fairly judge modern Spongebob properties. The first four seasons are all I know, and things have changed so much since then that comparing them seems unfair. That said, it's also too similar in many ways, using the same characters and references. That makes it harder for original fans to get invested in a new thing, when you're constantly reminded of what it used to be. Great review, I appreciate your fairness in your critiques and I'm glad the show isn't too terrible in its own right!

2 things: 1) How do you bring up the babification and use Tiny Toons instead of Baby Looney Tunes (which was the actual name) and 2) I find it odd Paramount+ canceled the Panty Raid episode, but a nudist colony search episode is actively made for this show. In general, I've always been amazing how both Scooby Doo Mystery Inc and A Pup named Scooby Doo managed to create two of the definitive best versions of the classic show/formula, both whilst being retellings that aged the gang down and retconned/massively changed the characters we've had for decades. How nice of Paramount to produce a show just to remind everyone how hard that is.

After doing some research I found out that krabs and plankton are the correct age with respect to SB and Patrick BUT squidward is not he should be a slightly younger camp councillor And sandy should not be there Over all my three concerns about this show is squidward being to young and sandy being in the show at all and the fact that the KP formula is being fought about even though the krusty krab open in the late 90s after kamp koral

I've never even heard of this show beyond applying for a 3D artist job to work on Kamp Koral. I had no idea it was about Spongebob. I have a sinking feeling that this show is gonna fall into Teen Titans Go / Total Dramarama territory. As a big Scooby fan, I love the Pup series and find that it best fits as it is because it's not a direct showing of what literally happened to the characters when they were kids: it's a retelling of the more significant memories and mysteries they solved back then with the narrator being Shaggy (except for two episodes out of the entire series). That's why we have such a starkly different art style from other incarnations of the franchise. To me, it works well. It's cartoony, funny, and exaggerated -- just like the stories that Shaggy describes when each episode begins, so it's not 100% the truth. Very much like how we are not perfect in remembering every detail of our childhoods, it's got a believable margin of error.

@@NatYourAverageNerd I hold to the argument that pup named Scooby Doo is Canonical to both what's new Scooby Doo and Scooby Doo where are you. All 3 shows hold up multiple pieces of evidence that they take place in the same floating timeline. Pup named Scooby Doo Taking place when they were kids. Scooby Doo where are you when they're teens/young adults And what's new Scooby Doo Taking place in their mid 20's. There's evidence against this obviously like the mystery machine's orgin. But what's new Scooby Doo makes references to both the original flagship show and a pup named Scooby Doo. Call backs to bad guys they've unmasked and the like. It wasn't the best incarceration of the Scooby Doo gang that title will always go to Scooby Doo where are you. However a pup named Scooby Doo will always be my favorite incarceration of the mystery solving group. That Staple in my heart is why I hate with great intestity the 2009/2011 made for tv movies. Going as far back as the original flagship show the viewer is always told they knew each other since they were younger and shaggy always had Scooby Doo. He wasn't discovered when he fleeing ghosts. And shaggy wasn't a loner hippie kid. He had friends outside the main group and family members who had relatives of Scooby Doo as Pets as well. My grandpa was a giant Scooby Doo nerd and he didn't live to see these movies see the light of day. But if he did he would go on and on while speaking Italian how all in the incarnations of the show fits in a single or multiple timelines. He knew so much about Scooby Doo that mystery Incorporated would be his favorite piece of Media. Because of all the reference to the different incarcerations that came before. While be the lesser knowledgeable of the franchise I will love a pup named Scooby Doo simply because well I grew up with it. It aired orginally before I was born but I remember watching it every morning with my grandpa and mom every weekday before I went to school. I was a kid watching a show my mom loved as a kid but with the characters as kids themselves.

This show seems so bizarre, even for Spongebob standards. Outside the whole if Hillenberg would’ve approved of this topic (that’s a rabbit hole in of itself) it definitely seems like there was effort put into this. I’m surprised how much of the original series writers worked on this show. Although this show retcons a lot of things established from the show, Spongebob was never known for its continuity, but I do like to consider this and Sponge on the Run being in a separate timeline mostly out of nostalgia shakes. The animation looks better than I feared it would’ve been. Again, it’s a show I feel really weird about

She was a teenager In the base show while SpongeBob and Patrick were"adults". The reason you thought she was older is most likely because SpongeBob and Patrick aren't the most mature adults in bikini bottom. Thus assuming they were actually younger.

I hope SpongeBob doesn't end up like Rugrats were they made a spin off like Rugrats made all grown up and then they stoped making the original Rugrats then the spin off failed so Rugrats was over i hope SpongeBob doesn't stop making the main episodes to work on the spinoff because i have a feeling it will repeat the Rugrats

I see the heart they put into it, and I just think there's too much negative press around it. They definitely made SpongeBob 2.0 for the modern gen and there's small things that they aren't getting right but this is their beginning, we're used to SpongeBob's first few seasons starting off strong but most cartoons aren't like that.

@@terellmitchell918 good point. I was thinking how much nickelodean must be paying Tom Kenny and the cast to not retire. I can't imagine them being replaced. It'd be like changing voices on Simpsons. Blasphemy.
