Spooky Fog Theories! - Shelter 2

Now, onto the fog! The fog occurs in the three trees area and the center tree area in Autumn, Summer and Spring. If you enter, it becomes dark and you hear creepy music. One of the cubs might get scared. The best thing to do if you're caught in it is to stay still and call your cubs to you until it passes. If you run, you might lose a cub, usually resulting in the death of the lost cub. When your cub dies, you'll hear what sounds like a wolf growling and possibly the dying yowl of your cub.

If you haven’t found out yet, this is called the lonely fog, if u search it it should show the lonely fog story which is part of the pitter patter edition. It gives some background. Some ways to survive it ofc is to wait it out and keep you cubs close, go uphill as high as you can or try to exit the fog

I'm pretty sure it's the Lonesome Fog...but it still doesn't explain the growling and the bangs. I think you lose cubs cause they get lost in the fog and then when it shrinks back in it takes the cub with it. The growling may be a reference to the wolf in the Lonesome Fog book (then again the book came out after shelter shelter2). I do really like the idea of it being people firing gunshots, it would make sense for them to try and shoot literally anything they moves in the fog. Another theory with the cubs is that the gunshots hit them and their bodies got taken with the fog.

Overall, it's very creepy. I got so terrified the first time I heard the bangs. I love how many hidden things and events happen, so we can all have a great time theorizing!

Have you read the Lonesome Fog? Basically a very scared cub encounters it (it appears because she's scared) and she meets a wolf mother and talks with her. When the fog goes away they go back to their own homes.

My theory is it's the living embody meet of fear some how, that's why one of the Cubs cower in fear. In the book the cub gets scared and the fog comes. Many the gunshots are imaginary and mabey there's a wolf in the fog, because in the book a wolf was also in the fog lost. The wolf seen the cub and ate it when a cub dies the fog goes away, maybe the fear going away? To me it doesn't make sense for the humans to just vanish so quickly with the fog, why not stay even after killing a cub? That's just my thoughts though.

i thnk its called the lonesome fog it ssays that the cub who cried gets vanished(dissapered missing or dead) thats my theory actually 0_0

Because of the mountains dlc we can actually see fire in the game and it doesn’t quite admit this fog like thing when it burns plus’s we would probably hear some kind of lightning bolt which was how the fires start when yours wandering around. (It’s not impossible that it’s fire smoke but if it was wouldn’t it match with the fire smoke that you see in the dlc?) From my experience I’ve never had a cub fall down or get extremely pale during the fog, but I do never see any type of food. I don’t know if I always have them every fed, or they don’t drain at all during this event. To add to the human theory the fog/smoke might be burning oil or degradation due to oil farming or gas usage which a Lynx would not find familiar. They probably didn’t show the humans because it would clash tonally with the rest of a pretty relaxed game, plus I don’t know if human models would look the best in this game. It’s most likely to make some kind of mystery to the player, and leave it up to debate like the ending scene with the other Lynx. Speaking of which- maybe you should do a theory on that scene because there’s a ton of different views on it!

My theory is that it’s humans. It all connects. Loud bangs (gun shots) Black fog (smoke/construction) Dogs(used for hunting wildlife)

(I apologize right away if something is not clear here, I don't speak English well) Well, my theory about a tree is very similar to yours. Spirits and animals are closely connected in Shelter 2. As I understand it, for a lynx the spirit of a star is a friend. But besides friends, there are also enemies, right? The spirit of the tree can somehow influence the appearance of a lonely fog, thereby sending disaster to the lynx family. It is not clear for what purpose, but anything is possible. This theory is unlikely, but it also has a place to be;)

What I Think: Hunters Trained Hunting Dogs To Kill Anything In The Area, Which Will Kill Any Alone Cub. And The Fog Is A Result Of Large Amounts Of Bullets Being Shot While Moving Around The Area

the human one is dumb heres why 1. it took place whrere the mammoths whrere still alive meaning that would not be possible due to there not being any tech 2. why the growl humans don't growl 3. and if you played shelter 1 it has the same growl as the darkness part
