My Panama Blonde bolted out of it’s enclosure yesterday, and went straight behind my 6’ aquarium. After 5 hours of trying to coax it out I decided to turn all the lights out and at 4am it appeared on my living room ceiling. So, with my little step ladder to stand on and my catch cup I managed to get it back in it’s enclosure.

Man, I was so nervous bringing my H Mac home from Repticon yesterday, after reading all the "they're super defensive and bolty" care sheets, but mine has been an absolute CAKE WALK to deal with thus far. Though I will say, mine may be broken...because it decided to try to bury it's face into the ground behind the cork lol. I did also get to see it take a big jump down near its water dish from the top of the cork! Beautiful and incredible species! Great vid.

Oh boy i have an h maculata arriving soon. Just a tiny sling so hopefully i can learn with it as it grows. Ive only been keeping for 6 weeks. Recently hit a point where i felt ready for old worlds after rehousing a few ornery new world Ts. So I got this guy, an OBT, and an chilobrachys electric blue. Wanted all 3 types. I also picked up a phormictopus dominican purple. All were bucket list Ts for me but just wasnt sure when id be ready. But thanks to the aforementioned rehousings and great resources like your channel, tom moran etc i finally feel capable. My old fear of these guys has been replaced with respect and admiration. I absolutely cannot wait until my more "challenging" Ts arrive.

Holy bejeesus I just rewatched this video because I just bought my first h Mac today at Tampa repticon and you were right 100% about these guys. It was my last rehouse of the night and that little critter is faster than the flash and I swear it can fly from the two enclosures. I almost wanna just go ahead and rehouse the little 1.5” sling into its final enclosure so I never have to deal with it again. Phew I think I need an adult beverage.

Derek Whisenant yeah I wouldn’t kid about an H. mac. I would hate for anyone to go in unprepared. If you get lucky and get a calm one then more power to you but their nature is to be extremely fast and defensive. I can’t tell you how many people end up with them crawling all around their body from a simple rehouse. When they bolt it’s all or nothing. I’m not sure so I wouldn’t let my guard down but it seems like they tend to calm down a little bit when they reach adulthood. I think I did a total of 3 rehouses on mine before I put it in its final enclosure. Congratulations and enjoy your new H. mac. They truly are beautiful when they reach their adult size. 🤓👍🏼

I got a h. mac sling a few weeks ago. I was honestly surprised that it climbed up the tongs, after I tried to get it into it's new enclosure. Never ever saw a tarantula doing this, but besides that, mine is pretty chill, I see him most of the time outside.

oh gosh that Ephebopus is beautiful Ive never seen those before such a nice spider. H macs too theyre sooo pretty all that family are theyre some of the most beautiful spiders of all imo. I have 3 a little H mac juvenile a Stromatopelma calceatum and a Encyocratella olivacea and I would say theyre all super skittish and unpredictable rather than defensive but i know how you feel just knowing how venemous they are makes it a little bit scary when youre moving them around. one time my S calceatum escaped when I was rehousing it and ran up my arm and sat on my shoulder 😲

I'm wondering about the Ephebopus uatuman, if you noticed that the back four legs looked atrophied compared to the front four legs. I understand that these kinds of things can self-correct with subsequent molting, but it might be a good idea to keep an eye on the little guy to make sure. I wasn't sure if it was a perspective/camera angle thing until the last shot where you can easily detect the size disparity: 9:13 - 9:29 He's a beautiful t for sure. I've been enjoying your wonderful videos, thank you for sharing your experiences with us. 🕷🕸🤎

Nice My h mac is somehow my easiest t to deal with and one o my favourite species Would be a good idea to change the metal screen on the top of the new enclosure for perspex with vent holes as im guessing you wouldn't want to be trying to unhook an angry h mac that has its claws stuck in the sceen.

I was thinking the same exact thing (on both counts)! I never bother with the soft part of the brush anymore, it never gets my Ts to move. The other end works perfectly it gets them to move and they don’t freak out when it touches them.

Hey Alex, great vid as always, brother... question though, for the T. vagans, the size of them, they looked like they could have gone into enclosures way bigger. Wouldn't that cut down on the number of rehousings, that must be stressful for them... and you ! 22:25... wouldn't have been easier, again for both of you, to turn the bottle around, take the cap off and let her leave the way she was facing ?

Hi - great vid - thanks! I'm picking up a H Mac sling next week. I was curious... How do you keep the slings/juveys? I hear they should be kept as a fossorial when tiny slings... At what stage do you switch them to an arboreal set-up? Thanks.
@TarantulaHaven5 жыл бұрын
Chester Sykes you should keep them arboreal from the start. They usually will set up around the base of the cork bark/tube and burrow down but make web curtains up the cork. They will come out and climb periodically but they are very shy and will usually bolt into their hides at the slightest disturbance. As they get older you’ll begin to see them more frequently at which time they’ll start to web up higher and keep more of a web tent with funnels going down.

@TarantulaHaven5 жыл бұрын
Demoire yes I do. I have 3 but so far haven’t been much of a problem because they are slings and spend most of their time hiding. All I can say is be very careful around your H. mac until you get to know it. Each one can have a different disposition but they are very shy and can be very defensive.
@Man-EatingMushroom5 жыл бұрын
Tarantula Haven thanks very much, and yes my OBT slings do the same when I go in their homes (I use the same small enclosures I think you called pixie boxes) but come right back up. I hear they are more prone to aggression than HMAC, meaning they will not only stand their ground, but come at you and for you rather than just to get away.
@Man-EatingMushroom5 жыл бұрын
Tarantula Haven i also wanted to say that I don’t understand why you don’t have more viewers as I do watch most of the tarantula hobby you tubers, but some of the bigger channels don’t give even half of the advice you do. With the HMAC in particular, you actually gave me what I was looking for whereas most everyone else just gives it’s housing requirements and bad temperament, you explained how they will either go down to hide, stand their ground or stand their ground and then bolt, or just bolt. And how to read it. Helpful! Thanks again.

Thank you. The reason I probably don’t have more subscribers is because I don’t usually maintain a schedule. I’m a full time teacher and I post when I can. Also i tend to be more informative and less exciting which turns some people off. I’m cool with it though. I’m still growing and gaining subscribers fairly steadily. You get out of it what you put in. Hopefully in the future when my load lightens I’ll be able to post more frequently. Thank you for your support and kind words. It does mean a lot to me. 🤓👍🏼
@Man-EatingMushroom5 жыл бұрын
Tarantula Haven of course, your more than welcome for any little support and kind words I can give! I don’t usually make comments/ask questions and when I do, it’s rare to get a response so I very much so appreciate you taking the time. I think you nailed it on the head in that most people nowadays want more entertainment and jokes over actual informational and helpful content. It’s a shame. The insight you have into it is refreshing to hear though. With all of the tarantulas and reptiles my wife and I keep, we started a few different feeder colonies and our Madagascar Hissing roach colony has gotten far out of control - so we’ve reached out to our local community to give them away for free. A number of teachers from local schools (I assume for younger children) have actually responded explaining either they keep a pet reptile in the classroom and want the roaches as feeders OR to use as a pet in class for instructional purposes...it’s very cool and interesting. I wish my teachers back then had kept tarantulas!!
