I was VERY excited to FINALLY get the Spool HI-Speed bearings out for some casting tests. I tested the stock bearings v.s. degreased stock bearings v.s. Spool HI-Speed bearings. I pulled out the old 200’ measuring tape and set it up at a local lake. I got quite a few looks by those passing by. However, it was TOTALLY worth it! I was VERY surprised by some of the results. I’ll discuss my thoughts at the end of the video so be sure to watch through the video until the end.
I had a lot of fun doing this and would LOVE to hear what you think. I’m contemplating doing some tests with lighter baits, different reels compared to the Speed Demon, etc.
COMMENT BELOW and let me know if you would like to see more videos like this in the future.

I use Swedish SKF extra tolerance berings in some reels and there is a bit of difference in distance and how they are made is basically less balls and more free play and I'm use a silicone type oil. But backside is you must clean them every time because they are opend so water dirt get easy in the berings. I did a test whit old VS new that is a big difference! I was test in my old Ambassadeur 6000 from 1972 the old VS new my difference was average 10ft longer whit the old stock VS new. I did use a 1 OZ weight for the test. Best regards Bjorn from Sweden 🇸🇪

I think with a little time and tunning you could increase 15 yards. That's a lot in the casting world. But if you are using a chuck and wind lure making your normal casts with less effort is money. I'm glad you did this video cause I was a little skeptical if it was actually worth it. Thanks brother. Another great vid

Thanks man. Yea, I may do that test next for max distance potential. It does cast easier with less power. I think these could be good for weightless baits and pitching. Less effort! Thanks for watching brother.

im just now seeing this video. thanks for posting it. I ordered 2 kastking assassins yesterday and full tune spool hi speed bearing sets for them. good reviews and I figure if the reel were "cheap", it would be the bearings to go first. with the bearing set being $26 a set, that and the price of the reel is still cheaper than my curado. which also needs bearings replaced... nice video dude!!

In market testing there is a factor of expectation which is why they do blind testing. Best to get a buddy of yours to do the casting without letting him know which bearings are being used. Idealy he would not have your knowledge of the difference in sounds they make . No doubt you may have every intention of being non bios in your casting effort but that expectation of results makes a difference. We did such a test with golf club drivers with test subjects swinging $50 vs.$500 golf clubs. Groups had much different results when they knew brand and retail price before the test vs. when the logos were covered and they thought the were of similar value .... Still very appreciative of your efforts and informative videos

Nice video. I have to admit that I expect more difference in the distance. How ever, it would be nice to see the difference between the berings in short casting distances, like when fliping and pitching fishing technicks with light lures. Anyway, the video was nice. Keep it that way.👍

Appreciate that man. I can tell you that casting feels easier. I also think there would be differences with different types of reels (magnetic brakes vs. Centrifugal) I also think lighter baits would really benefit from these. I need to do more tests!

How do you like that reel? I started with a basic abu garcia baitcaster combo and gear ratio was around 6.3:1 . I use alot of jerk baits,crank baits , senko worms etc. I like the distance your getting on that. I found a new reel like yours for 89$ . I want to up my game to better gear.
@HawkeyeBassin
@HawkeyeBassin 6 жыл бұрын
Here's what I don't get about after market bearings... You have a tension knob and a breaking system to SLOW down the spool to reduce backlashes. We tune it to a perfect speed to allow us to cast baits the optimal distance without backlashes. So why buy bearings to increase the spool speed if you are just going to slow the spool down again with the brakes and etc... As long as the original bearings aren't complete crap/eroded, shouldnt it not make a difference? Idk I'm just confused and rambling now lol
@HawkeyeBassin
@HawkeyeBassin 6 жыл бұрын
I mean you obviously got results from them, but I'm still skeptical. There's so many different factors that can effect distance... Idk... Either way, thanks for this video and confusing me for the rest of the day 🤣
@curtboroff
@curtboroff 6 жыл бұрын
Don’t overthink it my man, you’ll drive yourself crazy. 🤪🍻 A: When you’re already using great components, upgrading to the best is going to be very marginal. B: The new bearings will not only make the spool spin longer, they will also allow the breaking to be equally more effective. You should be able to use the exact same settings as before, everything will just perform smoother with less effort and less friction. Tight lines.
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 6 жыл бұрын
HawkeyeBassin I hear ya brother. I agreed completely before I tested. What I noticed was the end of the cast. I keep spool tension pretty loose. If you use brakes and keep those tighter, they aren't worth changing. But if you are comfortable with thumb control I feel like that's where you can find benefits. They felt easier to cast so I think they could benefit with weightless baits and pitching. Not for distance but ease. Thanks for watching my man!

Knowing how bearings work, you need oil and grease to keep them cooled down it would be interesting to see you doing a test again with the stock bearings and the high-speed ones with one of those laser thermometers to see how hot they get. Because in these reels with all these little plastic parts them getting hot can fatigue and possibly warp them, which will end up wearing out your real quicker. Awesome video though.

Nice video thanks! I have done similar tests and I've found.that I'm the limiting factor on cast distance. My favorite baitcaster for distance is also my cheapest. It's a Daiwa Laguna. Believe it or not I can sling a 3/8 oz plug far enough that I can count.how many turns of line are left on the spool. Incidentally I'm lazy so instead of measuring the distance and walking every cast I just count.how many cranks to reel in after the cast. Cheers!

I enjoyed the video. But if I would do anything different I would of laid the rod down rod tip on the very beginning of the tape measurer after each cast and then pulled the line over to the tape measurer and then taught. That way you are getting the actual distance traveled each time and not losing some distance because of how offset the angle is to the tape measurer. It is no coincidence that the closer to the tape it is the further it measured. Other than that very insightful.

I’d like to do a complete tear down of one of my reels and clean and lube the bearings and go against a reel with these bearings in them. I bet i could get the same results if not better. Plenty of bearing oils that will give them a good jump in speed and rotational duration.

I desperately want you to answer my questions. I bought Spartacus Plus Reel. I needed an extra spool, so I paid 12 dollars each and bought total 4 spools. But when I received the product, I was disappointed. Only one was a spool with centrifugal technology, and the other was a simple spool without centrifugal technology. So I asked the castkinging seller. But they said, "The 12 dollar spool doesn't have centrifugal technology." "You have to pay more for spools with centrifugal technology." is it right? really?

A THIN layer of oil will definitely allow stock bearings to spin more freely! However, you have to regularly reapply oil. You don't really need to worry about that with greased bearings unless they get dirty or some sort of foreign debris inside.

120 some feet, thats about 40 yards. Ok for bass fishing, freshwater, and tossing baits. It will never make it on the beach in the surf but that's where you go to 10 to 14 ft rods, round multiplier reels without level winds, and 3 to 8 oz weights. The 10 to 15 feet advantage on this test becomes the difference between 100 yards and 180 yards with the ceramic bearings if your thumb can get the proper education. Btw, don't try it with a bare thumb. Wear a leather glove unless you want to lose a couple layers of skin

He also uses 10 or 12 pound fluro. You'll never get the distance from braid as you would from fluro. These actually do work. I use them in my Lews Tournament MB reels.

Yea, I think they do increase distance. I was going for max distance, just wanted to test with all the same settings. Thanks for watching man!

Destroy your reel as in take 5 minutes of your time to cut all of the line off and put new on?

Sure better bearings help. What bothers me about this after market company is how shady he is on TikTok lying about his casts that spoil the reel. “Weightless senko” but doesn’t mention the weights above the plastic. Same with hos over her videos casting with heady lead or lead jigs.
