I started about 3 years ago and it's what I do in winter. TV on in the early evenings and carve away

So I'm not the only one crazy enough to carve spoons in my living room.

What types of wood do you recommend for a 1st-timer? Eucalypt, wattle, she-oak maybe? Forest inland from Coffs Harbour, millions of acres with awesome bush roads. Coachwood is a speciality but I don't know how to identify it!!

@@Peter525521 Thank you Peter, I have plenty available out in the local forest - and I am friends with the logging crew, they will keep an eye out for any good pieces for me.

I've used blue gum eucalyptus, and it works well. Surprisingly- to me- the wood doesn't smell. It's just the leaves, and bark that smell like eucalyptus. Of course, it's just white wood, and doesn't have a beautiful grain, but it works well. I'm in California, USA, but we've got a fair amount of eucalyptus that's been planted here.
