ok maybe time to get a pair of night vision binos, about 150, some are twice that but go twice the distance, the cheaper ones have greatly improved and are useful to boaters now, see the shore or dock from 300 feet away, etc. The more expensive go 3x that far. In total darkness.

Check that one of your supply fuel hoses does not have a collapsed inner core. Some hose will separate from the reinforcing and collapse under vacuum. Try feeding the Genny from a Gerry can . one other thought is the air vent to The diesel tank blocked.

My wife is terrified about crossing the ocean but maybe she might be open to a ICW boat to live on. Looks like you can go for days but I’m not sure how far it goes.
@Spoondrifters Жыл бұрын
You can go on the ICW from Brownsville TX on the Mexican border to the tip of Florida, up the east coast where you take canals to the Great Lakes then you can go down the Mississippi River to the gulf again. It’s called The Great Loop, boaters doing it are called Loopers. Lots of good information and videos about it. 👍😍

If you could do it again, would you just have slapped a new Beta in it and have been done with it. Just solar and Lithium Ion batteries for house power?
@Spoondrifters Жыл бұрын
Nope, we hate the smell and sound of Diesel engines. We haven’t had a lick of trouble with our electric motor. The generator problem has now been sorted so it’s not causing the same trouble. Once we get to Florida we won’t be using the motor like this so won’t need to use the generator to run it. We have solar to charge our house bank which are AGM batteries. They can also be charged by the generator or shore power.
@nufsed Жыл бұрын
@@Spoondrifters okay, fair enough, but you have diesel fuel for your generator, gas for your other generator, so, I was just wondering.
@Spoondrifters Жыл бұрын
@@nufsed yes we do. But this boat originally had a 200 gallon diesel tank under the salon (where the batteries now are) and man was it stinky! So many old boats have that icky diesel smell. LOL
@jake-ps3bq Жыл бұрын
I have been watching people who are using electric motors and if I had my choice I would go for a Diesel Engine because I still think the electric still have a way to good. The other they are using mainly there sails and the others ones are doing like you.

This is why I haven't gone to electric I'm afraid that you'd be other stranded because you have no power but I would like to have electric attached to my shaft so I'd have electric and diesel which would be okay put a clutch on the shaft
@Spoondrifters27 күн бұрын
You can be stranded if your diesel breaks down just as easily. It's actually more common for a diesel to have problems than an electric motor. Yes, one that has both would give you the best of both worlds
