@@MythOverseer That's not a theory, the original release SPORE apparently contained a copy security mechanism that would scan your pc to make sure that you could only install it on one to three PCs maximum. In the end EA seems to not have used that, but they never fully removed it from the code which is why to this day some anti virus softwares will detect it and warn your PC that it contains a trojan because that is basically what's in the files. Some good old EA tactic to force you to repurchase the game for every PC you use it on.

The hilarious and sad thing about Spore is that, it wasnt Will Wright that wanted the game to become this shitty kid cartoon game. It was an in-house conflict between "Team Cute" lead by another Maxis developer, and "Team Realism" lead by Will Wright. Eventually the majority of the devs decided that "Cute" was the better (or rather easier) choice, and Will Wright had to accept the democracy of the dev team, being the nice guy he is (to his own detriment, and that of the game). So yeah, thats why it ended up like this. What we saw in the very earliest pre-alpha videos, was Will Wrights actual vision of the game as a science-based realistic evolution sim. What we got in the end, was not Will's fault, it was the fuckwitz at Maxis that went against his vision.

Just an fyi, iirc that was a Spice Geysir spitting out spice and lifting a rock in the process but due to the perfect graphics setting you couldn't see the spice cloud
