@Kevin Bright It would sound like that to someone who doesn't know baseball and thinks in terms of "alpha" and "beta" males instead of results on the field. Al Kaline is in the Hall of Fame (on the first ballot), and let his playing speak for him. Kaline was also captain of the team and The Leader in the Detroit clubhouse. Where has it gotten guys like AJ Burnett and Ian Kinsler? They look like pipsqueaks arguing balls and strikes instead of taking it like a man. Are guys like Burnett and Kinsler embarrassed? @johncronin9540 4 жыл бұрын
Evan Kirkpatrick What happened with the foul call was this. The catcher sometimes blocks the umpire’s vision of that kind of pitch. As can the batter’s swing. Often, one has to try and listen for a sound, and the ball bouncing off the plate must have been what the plate umpire heard. Usually, the other umpires are just too far away to see it. Umpires don’t have the advantage of slo-motion replay from a different angle.

stalinnnFor Timee not just Hernandez. CB Bucknor, Joe West, and Doug Eddings are all pretty bad as well. I’ll never forget when Joe West called Mark Buehrle for 2 straight balks, even tho he didn’t balk. Buehrle raised his arms in shock after he called a balk, didn’t even say a word, and West tossed him. Even the commentators said West is a disgrace to the umpiring community and should be suspended for that
@peterg5247
@peterg5247 4 жыл бұрын
You don't blame them for their actions? Acting like a child over disagreeing with a call and you don't blame them. Bad ump or good ump is a good enough excuse to act like a spoiled child? Try doing that at work or anywhere else when you're upset. Google the definition of the word professional.
@samputt5045
@samputt5045 4 жыл бұрын
Peter G first of all, I said “some”, not all. Second, Angel Hernandez, Joe West, CB Bucknor, and a couple of other umpires are the definition of “unprofessional.” They escalate situations when they don’t need to be, and they eject players for “showing up the umpire” when they’re in disbelief about the terrible call the umpire just made. Take for example Mark Buehrle. Joe West called a balk on him, and he put his hands behind his head in disbelief. Joe West threw him out for that. Ridiculous, right? I agree with you on some players. Manny Machado for example. Biggest idiot and baby in the MLB. Rugned Odor. How is he still playing baseball?! This comment was not intended for those players though. This comment was intended for the players that were in disbelief about the terrible call that the umpire made, and got thrown out somehow. If you read some of their lips, they are usually saying something along the lines of “that was a terrible call” or “that’s twice this game!” Not being a baby.

@@samputt5045 you can apologize for them all day 'heat of the moment' or 'tensions ran high' I never acted like that in iraq, no one would accept that behavior. Now that may not be as intense as a 7-1 8th inning game between 2 sub 500 teams, but all the same- no bad call, or two bad calls or 10 bad calls makes it okay. Don't let Joe west escalate, own the situation and your behavior I forgot, self dignity was outlawed by the current administration. You're right, give them excuses, blame others for their actions

@@gerald828 Ok, but how many times have the umps changed their minds and and reversed their decisions after players act like that lol? There's only two guys in my lifetime who had that kind of eye: Barry Bonds and Joey Votto. Both .300 plus career batting average, high up on team records, good team players. What's Bryce Harper's batting average? What's his walk to strikeout ratio? What's his RBI with RISP? Only thing he's got going for him is he's had two teams dumb enough to pay him loads more than he's worth. He's (apologies to Jay Bruce) Jay Bruce with a shit attitude.

@Get Offended you really picked a good time to disagree with me sir. I didn't only mention batting average. I mentioned walk to strikeout ratio, RBI with RISP also. I don't care so much about home runs as the next guy, because if all your homers are solo jacks, they're nearly useless. If a man has 30 homers but only 30 RBIs, that's not gonna win too many games. I've been watching baseball longer than you've been alive son. I want to see a power hitter get at LEAST 3 times as many RBIs as homers, and at least walk way more than he strikes out. I hate that baseball has become ok with hitters striking out so much and so enamored with home runs.

Drop the “old school classic baseball” idea if you even want an inclination of the sport surviving. Its too old school to be bougie drop it n watch

Why do you think the Nats all of a sudden were WS champs when he left? He'll never help a team go all the way. He'll hit a bunch of HRs but won't be a positive presence in the clubhouse. I'd take a hard pass on having him on my squad. Philly will regret signing him to that ridiculous contract. They won't see another WS title while he's around. Sorry Phils fans!

Best Story I ever heard was about a young rookie pitcher and Rogers Hornsby...pitching to Mr.Hornsby the pitcher became frustrated that the umpire wasn't calling any strikes, when the umpire calmly told the pitcher when you throw a strike Mr. Hornsby will let you know. For you youngsters Rogers Hornsby averaged around .400 from 1921 to 1925 and finished with the 2nd highest lifetime batting avg behind Ty Cobb.

@@tokivikerness8863 Harper was touted as a 5 tool player when he joined the league. In his 8 years: BA .276, he has only driven in 100 runs twice, he has avg. 27 HRs and has only hit 30 or more 3 times. Im a huge fan of Arenado and think he is way more valuable than Harper. It's hard to compare stats because Arenado plays at Coors and Harper has played all but one season in a Pitchers park. The thing that separates Arenado is that he is the greatest fielding 3B in the history of MLB. Matt Chapman is very close by the way. But Arenado's defense is immeasurable. Harper is pretty mediocre with an above average but not great arm in RF. Harper as with most of these guys on the list are "Cancers in the clubhouse." Arenado is well respected in his.
