Instil a sport culture from young. Rather than eating and shopping on the weekends, encourage more school going children to play and love sports. Only then, there will be consistent results in the future. Look at Australia, small country where sports is a culture and where people socialise through sports. There is too much pressure for Li Zii Jia and Azizulhasni to deliver gold when they are not even at the top of their sport at the moment.
