This video looks at techniques for diagnosing and treating Severs Disease, also known as calcaneal apophysitis. This condition causes heel pain and is commonly seen in young athletes, between 8 and 14 years old. It's especially common in basketballers, AFL and rugby players, gymnasts, and soccer players.
Severs Disease usually rears its head when there's been a change in activity - such as changing from basketball to AFL - or when there's been an increase in load. While it can resolve itself over time, it's important for athletes, coaches, and parents to be able to recognise the signs and manage the symptoms.
