Wtf was going on with that Canadian Football game😂
@GoDolphins344 жыл бұрын
In canadian football, if you are the receiving team on a punt and you want to take the touchback (kneel in your own end zone), you have to give your opponent a point. Otherwise you can run it out. So instead of a touchback on a punt/field goal attempt, the kicking team can receive one point for kicking the ball into the opponent's end zone, or beyond the side or back lines, without the receiving team being able to bring it out. Basically if you drove downfield far enough that it's possible to do that, you get credit, unlike American football where you get punished with nothing and the opponent gets to take the ball out to the 25. So if you try a "coffin corner" punt but it trickles into the end zone and out of bounds, you really lost the field possession battle, but you get a point. This play is called a rouge. In this game the score was tied with a second left, so the team with the ball didn't care about the field goal, or about any good field position by their opponent, they just wanted to score a rouge for the win. The defender had his heels right in front of the back line and jumped and desperately kept the ball in play. Once that happens (and here's where things get WAY different than American football, but this is so crazy rare that you almost NEVER see it), on a field goal attempt, you have to KICK the ball out of your end zone. If the ball goes to the other team they can try to kick it again for the rouge. The kicking team's second attempt touched the receiving team, making it a live ball, which they fell on for a touchdown. I know. It's VERY different. But it actually makes sense in terms of what a team should be rewarded for and what they should not.
@LWhite544 жыл бұрын
@@GoDolphins34 That's interesting, but there's no way that any team should receive a point for a missed field goal. Missing a field goal is a failure that should not be rewarded. Can a team just kick the ball out of or over the end zone without even trying for 3 points if all they need is 1 point to win? Or does the ball have to land in or touch the ground?
@GoDolphins344 жыл бұрын
@@LWhite54 I disagree. In baseball, you can get a hit and score a teammate, and it still counts if you never get to score yourself. In football, Sometimes I drive 50 yards, but I'm still out of field goal range. Now I'm stuck. I have to punt gently to try not to avoid the touchback. Think about that -- I have to punt gently. If my offensive drive was less successful, I could punt with full force and the odds of driving you back are actually improved. I'm rewarded for being worse at offense. One point -- which isn't much in a sport where a touchdown is worth six -- is fair compensation for cashing in the field position you have gained. For saying "I did better than you because I drove to the edge of field goal range, whereas you took the ball at your own 25 and went three-and-out and didn't gain an inch." In the NFL, those two things are strangely equal; they weren't always, but they are now in a time when a good punter can kick the ball a mile and make your offensive ineptitude irrelevant. And to answer your question, I guess it has to touch something behind the end line, it's more about if you can jump and bat it back in play without touching the ground it hasn't been scored yet. That doesn't really happen, it almost always just scores or comes up short. The fact that the defender saved it in this video, and that saving it backfired spectacularly to the tune of a touchdown for his opponent, is what truly makes it noteworthy.

I've never seen anyone intercept an inbound pass, pass the ball, and win the game like Larry Bird did in that one game. Not a Dodger fan, but that final home run to win the game by a disabled Kirk Gibson is pretty iconic. It even gets its own Wikipedia page. And that reminds me of Kerri Strug's amazing vault on an injured ankle to win the gold medal for the US women's gymnastic team. The back story on that was amazing as well, as she gave up being able to compete in the individual events over the next couple of days by doing that vault.

One of the most painful things to see happen to a pitcher... i watched a different compilation today and that was on it. It reminded me how screwed up it was and that everybody knew it. It made me more mad bc after the Houston Astro’s cheating their way to winning the World Series , they lost nothing... even though they flat out cheated.. no real punishment... get to keep the rings and mvp and there was enough proof to know they cheated. But even though it’s so clear that it should have been called out that even the umpire publicly owned up to fucking that up... there’s no question that would have been the last out in a perfect game. With the Astros you could argue that we don’t know for sure if they still would have won that championship ... but gallaraga should have been awarded that perfect game... I know it wouldn’t have felt as good to get it that way... but he deserved it and took it like a champ should... it fires me up man
