Following a knee operation I had to have my leg in plaster from ankel to top of thigh, for 9 weeks. Having had to be plastered the same after an accedent, I knew there would be a lot of mussel wasteage, so I managed to put EMS pads down the top of the plaster. The surgen was amazed that I had no mussel wastage at all & I was able to get almost a 90 degree bend out of my leg in only a couple of days.

Very informative, thank you. I have a very good mind muscle connection with almost every muscle, except recently I've noticed its extremely hard for me to contract the medial head of my calf during exercise. I think incorporating EMS into my training could be very beneficial, and will help me gain that mind-muscle connection that is missing.

I just bought one and it has been amazing already at targeting the really small muscles, tendons on the my ankle which can be really hard to work out. I have moved a bit too fast at the start so need to keep the intensity low. I have noticed that the electricity seems to move quite far in the body, if you have two effected areas maybe don't work them out in one session.

TENS work for some people to reduce pain - so perhaps that can be an option for days your pain is bad - it does not help healing EMS may help you build muscle but I would advise that you perhaps work with a therapist to show you how to use it in your case - regular exercise may be a better option in my opinion. Hi, I tweaked my knee playing tennis about a month ago. I have been wearing an elastic knee brace to add support, but I continue to have pain. Would this device help to strengthen the muscles around the knee?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 жыл бұрын
It can, but before getting any machines I would suggest that you get it diagnosed and get actual strength training exercises for it. This machine can enhance the gains from strength training exercises but is not enough to use on its own because it does not retrain functional movement patterns and also only works on the muscles without any effect on ligaments or joints. Regular exercises provide strength gains and also teaches movement patterns, enhances position sense and has a positive effect on joints and ligaments. If you wanted help with your rehab and an exercise plan, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. You can read more about how the online consultations work here: www.sports-injury-physio.com/

Does it also work for a paralyzed leg? I used to practice Kick Boxing and I had an accident during a match. After receiving a punch on my left side of the head, and my opponent felt down over me, when she got up she put her elbow on my neck...willingly or not...who knows... which left me with a broken neck and the entire right side of the body papalized.... the accident happened in 1997, I had to use a wheelchair, etc....some doctors told that I may never walk again.....no comment....I did not receive an orthoses for my knee so I now have a Hyperextension of my knee, and the muscles are atrophied...muscle capacity for the leg approx. 35%. Will such treatment be ok next to going to the Gym? Thank you
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 жыл бұрын
I know that some of the paralympic athletes use NMES in combination with their strength training. So they have the electrodes on the muscles to help them contract while they then perform the strength training exercises. So you time your own muscle contraction e.g. straightening out the leg with the machine contracting your quad muscle that is meant to do the work. If your leg has hyper-extension it will be your hamstrings that are not firing and working as they should, so you would want to stimulate the hamstrings while doing bridges or hamstring curls or leg slides (your choice of exercise will depend on your muscle's current ability).

Can a electrostimulator be effectively used in combination with a stationary bicycle to burn fat?
@alvinmotos5925
@alvinmotos5925 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. It allows you to utilize more muscle fibers when combined with the range of motion during pedaling. I've used an ems before and after and have seen much more pronounced muscle definitions on my quads, glutes and calves compared to years just using the bike by itself. Be careful not to set the level too high too soon otherwise you CAN get muscle tears that result in sharp pain. IF that happens ICE it and rest for a couple of weeks or more.
