People always complain about there not being beef in the NBA anymore (which I still think is untrue, just for the record), but I think a league where most players get along is one to strive for at the end of the day. I absolutely love seeing the mutual respect between players. These are all very special individuals and should recognize each other as such.

5 on 5 where you see the same faces on the other team over 20 or so times in a year. Yeah it's gonna be personal it's not the same as some coworkers in a job because each of them knows the work put in to get at that level. Then you have the fact these guys go to different teams more often than other sports so you see familiar faces and guys who are now your teammates and you get to know em better. So everybody knows everybody

I haven't followed basketball closely in years and barely even keep up with the playoffs so I'm certainly not speaking from an informed opinion but this is just a brilliant video - a whole side of the NBA, and of sports, that I think gets too little attention. So much of sports is about tension and so much of sports coverage is about dilating that tension even further and the result is that you rarely see the comradery and community that extends beyond the bounds of a single team. There's a shared and deserved respect amidst sheer competitiveness and that is worth a standing applaud.

Gordon Hayward came out after Kobe’s death and said that he didn’t intentionally step into the lane so that there could be another attempt if he missed. “He got 60 on me and I didn’t give him anything free all night. What happened on the free throw line was not intentional. Kobe would’ve lost respect for me if I gave him something free. That’s what made him so very special.”

I don't think his off court activity should change how fans view him as a basketball player but it's difficult to treat the two mutually exclusively. That being said, one wholesome interaction on the court doesn't cancel out a proven track record of acting dumb on social media. He's still young so it's possible that he can mature but not everyone does (such as Draymond).
