Bringing hockey players from overseas to the NHL in the 1980s was ... interesting. In this episode of "Hey Burkie", Jeff Marek takes Brian Burke to Mikhail Grabovski's banya with a few of his friends. Brian tells the guys how he recruited several Soviet hockey players like Igor Larionov and Vladimir Krutov to Vancouver and how the experience was a lot different than he expected.

Man.. imagine if Tretiak actually played in the NHL.. would he have been one of the all-time greats? Very possible.
@paulmackay7265
@paulmackay7265 Жыл бұрын
Hell he is considered one of the all time greats even without suiting up in the NHL. And that is pretty rare. I'd imagine there are quite a few players who never left Sweden(just as an example) who probably could have been point a game players. But for whatever reason they decided to stay home. I mean probably not a hardship, top tier athletes don't have to worry about paying rent no matter which nation they play in, and not everyone is suited to living in a new culture. The language barrier can be hard. Trust me on this....I live in Quebec, and I knew about 10 french words when I moved here. But anyone with more than a passing interest in hockey recognizes his name right? No one knows who Sven Mc Sweederson is. Never mind that he could have played on any NHL team if he wanted.

@@jerryczech953 I live in Russia, in a provincial town, in the 1980s and 1990s I attended a children's sports school, and we were given hockey uniforms for free. Hockey teams from the Czech Republic and Finland came to our competitions. Now, do you think Tretyak, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, had hockey equipment? PS: And no one died of starvation at that time, it's all complete nonsense.

You also forgot to add that Krutov chomped while eating, hiccupped and belched after eating. In addition, it was necessary to clarify that Krutov had unpleasant sweaty palms and he incorrectly placed commas in sentences. Nice video, really (although it's very similar to a hate speech and a boorish excess, as if someone is looking for trouble, but still nice), just right for those burger-eaters who find it funny when the characters fart loudly in movie and computer games. That's a recognizable unique feature, moreover, that's the level, the style, the mannerisms.
