Letang is the MVP of the team. He is the engine that runs the Pittsburgh Machine. I would be more confident in taking on Caps without Crosby vs taking them on without Letang.
@Gh0stBustaz117 жыл бұрын
The point is, the Penguins have so much depth that basically it doesn't matter who is injured, unless its literally almost every player. They have shown this with playoffs, and repeatedly during the regular season
@admin80737 жыл бұрын
Disagree. He plays over half the game and dominates top lines. The gap between Letang and next D-man is huge. Pittsburgh should have been out in round 1 but still playing because of MAF. In a full season, with the way Pens playing now, they probably finish near dead last.
@percussionjamz67047 жыл бұрын
admin8073 yeah Daley and cole are the best right now for the d. But man Letang is the most athletic defenseman and best puck handler for a defenseman. I would allow Erik Karlsson to be the only player to compare in defensive abilities.

I believe that the Penguins deserved to win the series still, despite getting out shot and even out played throughout most of the series. I firmly believe that good teams know how to win, but the BEST teams find ways to win. The Capitals know how to win, but the Penguins can find ways to win, no matter what.

If this was regular season 7 game series? Caps have a good chance at that. But in the playoffs, the caps are a joke. It's sad at this point. Year after year people say "this is the caps year, they are on fire this season" and they just can't win in the playoffs. Call it a curse or whatever but they just can't play playoff hockey.

The Caps would NOT win the next 9 if the series was played again. This is the Pens and the Caps we're talking about here. In all seriousness, though, goaltending is critical in the playoffs and that's pretty much the bottom line as far as this series goes. I actually like Holtby. But Fleury, despite his ups and downs, was the better goalie, and he is more talented and capable than people give him credit for. And good for Sullivan in getting the team ready for Game 7 despite the terrible game they had before.

Quality will almost beat quantity of depth. The Pens style of play also produces quality shots they can go up and down the ice FAST. In two possessions with Cosby you can be demoralized, like when Cosby scored twice in one minute in GAME ONE AT WASHINGTON ON THE ROAD. Crosby and Sullivan empowered and helped develop their younger counter parts. Their Leadership on ice is almost unquantifiable. Not Messier level up its up there they play confident and fast. Which is a good recipe for success. Sullivan's AHL development experience with his players has been key to their revival.

The big thing to look at is high danger shot percentage. The Pens were able to finish off their chances while MAF came up big on the back end. And while the Caps did outshoot the Pens a lot of them were relatively harmless shots straight into Fleury's body and they were playing from behind for a lot of the series.

Terrible analysis. How can you say the capitals would beat the penguins in 9 out of 10 series, thats wild. The penguins are built like a team and use a team effort to win games to were as the capitals are full of individual talent. Malkin the past 3 years has proved to be much better than Ovechkin and Crosby cannot be considered in the same class as Ovi. There's so much that we don't see that contribute to a team effort. So many things at practice and on the flights in and out of cities that can have an effect on a team. All it takes is one small rock to come up and crack a windshield and then it only gets worse from there. I have to give respect to the Caps for giving us a run for our money. They were tough! However, they will always be in this vicious cycle of getting knocked out in round 2.
@JoshuaBatJoshHayes6 жыл бұрын
Look at how many games where teams outshoot their opponent 40-25 and lose. There is MORE TO HOCKEY THAN PUTTING PUCKS ON THE NET. It's getting leverage in the middle of the ice- including traffic on the net - and taking advantage of core opportunities, even when it's not pretty--- and taking all of that, COMBINING sacrificing your body on defense, having solid goal tending and avoiding odd man rushes.
If you think for a moment the Caps were going to sweep the Pens (--- predicating that on shots --- and not offensive ice time, goal tending, opportunism, history, style of play, power play and defense, history and psychology), you clearly don't understand the grind of it or the overall matchup. The Pens didn't win outshooting teams in 16-17. If this was the first exhibit of these two teams playing, I could almost agree that the Caps maybe could/should have won this series, but given the history of this "rivalry" and other factors- just...NO.

Caps get lost when it comes to the playoffs. If Sid never got hurt this series would have been a sweep for the Pens. Biggest factor is have as many shots as you want, weve learned from past playoff series and even champions that stats arent everything. Yes the Caps did dominate the series but the Pens showed they can weather the storm and clutch up when needed because they have the experience of doing it. To say the Caps would beat the Pens 9 out of 10 times? Thats insane for the fact that the Pens have been dominating the Caps forever at this point.

Perhaps you are confused about shots on goal v. scoring chances. The Caps were one shot away from getting swept and it wasn't because of the shots on goal. It takes a team effort to win or lose. You should have known that the Caps were in trouble when it took 6 games (and really 8 games when you add in the ot minutes) to beat the Leafs. Your defense is wayyyyyyy too slow; your goalie became mortal during stretches of the series; and your big ticket great ape was only most effective when he was tripping and clipping Sids head with his stick in game 3. So after the series we find out that the cromag was playing injured (booo freakin hooo) everybody is playing injured. How is it possible that in game 7 with Mr. Game 7 you can't get one puck past MAF? The off season will be a tough one for the Caps, many ufa's and I imagine 9 or 10 of the current team will not be on the team. You have some young talent in the minors and that will help with the speed but it wont be enough probably. I really doubt the team will unload Ovchoken but they really should. He clearly doesn't have what it takes to be a captain; he is a pouting child who is a defensive liability. I look forward to many years of frustration for your precious Caps; keep on rocking the DREAD.

Yes, Fleury was Godly in net, but the Pens did have the second best record in the entire NHL next to the Caps and talent on both sides is pretty even on paper even with the absence of Letang and Daley. Having Crosby out for 2 games (played the first 5 min of game 3) they still showed grit and character in the face of adversity. They have better character players and more leaders that willed them to win with the talent they had. That's why the Pens consistently beat the Caps. Numbers are numbers and they don't mean much when you consider all that matters is the score at the end of the game. The Pens were better than the Caps and until Washington beats Pittsburgh in a series, that will continue to remain the same.

Winners find a way to win...simple as that. If you look at the Pens cup run in 2016 they severely dominated in the shot department. Could have swept the Rangers, Caps and Sharks which isn't a stretch. Look at the shot totals. I think they outshot Tampa by like over 70 for the 7 game series. That doesn't always translate to wins (clearly as the Pens lost some of those games). Guys like Jones and Vasilevsky (sorry on the spelling) were playing out of their minds. Now look at this year....the Pens honestly got outplayed by CBJ, Wash and Nashville...but like I said earlier...winners find a way. They had timely goals, saves and relied on a ton on experience. You can't teach that.

The numbers were fine, but he goaltending was not. Once more Holtby was grossly outplayed and statistically was the worst goaltender in the playoffs. He was in a word, atrocious and was the single biggest factor in why they've lost the last 2 years against a Pens team they should have beaten. Can this guy make a save in a big game? Anyone remember the game 7 collapse against the Rangers where he let in 4 in the 1st? I can't think of a series he's been the best goaltender in since the Dale Hunter upset against the Bruins.
