The NFL in the 70s was a quarterback poor league. That is why you built your team around a great runner like the Bills did with OJ Simpson, the Steelers did with Franco Harris, the Bears did with Walter Payton and the Oilers would do with Earl Campbell..... The Giants were trying to do this with Ron Johnson in the early 70s and by 1976 were trying Larry Cszonka...... The Giants couldn’t find a quarterback, Craig Morton can’t carry a team. Outside of Tarkenton, Staubach, Bert Jones, Ken Anderson, Brian Sipe and Terry Bradshaw there wasn’t much solid QB play. Green Bay traded the house for a 35 year old John Hadl in 1974 then for Lynn Dickey in 1976. The Eagles gave a number one pick to the Rams for Ron Jaworski. The Bears couldn’t get a decent QB to save their lives. There were up and comers like Dan Fouts and old veterans like Bob Griese but they weren’t available for trade. The turning point for the Giants franchise was in 1979 when George Young came from Miami to be GM and he drafted Phil Simms. Young knew how to put a team together, he put Parcells and Belichick in place to win championships....

@MGAF6883 жыл бұрын
In between bad seasons though somehow New York has 4 Super Bowl trophies and 5 NFC Championships. So there's that. The Giants may play a lot of mediocre or sucky football. Yet they also win championships and are the equal of the likes of Green Bay and others in the upper echelon of football.

Baddog Sports Google the 1966 NY Giants, that was definitely the worst Giant team ever and maybe the worst in NFL history. The 1966 Giants surrendered the most points in NFL history for a 14-game season. They allowed 501 points in 14 games, or an average of 35.8 points per game. This total broke the league record for the most points given up in a season. They lost a game to Washington 72-41. I know because I watched or listened to every game that season...what torture!
