Ever since I saw this clip on the news I realized she was absolutely scared of him and feels absolute powerlessness concerning his control over her. She is extremely anguished, more so because she is literally unable to speak out and tell the truth he is bent on hiding from everyone. I immediately felt very afraid for her.

As a DV survivor this sets off all kinds of alarms. Most striking to me is the way his arm is around her with his hand towards her neck. When he rests his head on hers I am willing to bet his head is not gently resting on hers I am. He pressing just a bit too much and simultaneously his arm is a bit tighter and his hand is slightly closer to her neck. He’s not comforting her. He is trapping her, reminding her of his power, threatening her. Watching that put me on full alert!!

He gives me the creeps! You can feel the evil emanating from him. If she were my daughter, I would have already moved her away from that snake. And, if he came anywhere near her again, well, let's just say it wouldn't be ending well for him because this Momma don't play. My daughter was married to a snake who thought he was going to try and hit her in my presence 3 days after she had given birth to their son, while I was driving them home from the hospital. I pulled over and made him get out of my car, and we left him in the dust. He best be glad The Judge,Jury, and Trial didn't come out from under my seat!

His body language is outrageously dangerous. He is holding her so tightly around the neck and around her arms as if to remind her of the physical violence he can subject her to if she dares say anything that would expose him. It is so obvious that she is terrified. She knows what happened to her baby boy and is in an overwhelming state of grief and anxiety, but she cannot utter a word because he is evidently threatening her. At a certain moment she pulls away from him as he holds her also in an attempt to show a united front before the media. When she does manage to speak a few words, he turns around to look at her to check she is saying what he told her to say to the press. One cannot even imagine the horrific distress she is going through.

It’s scary but I’m not sure about “interfering.” I have been shunned by several women who came to me telling me of their abuse and intimidation by their male partners. When I tried to help they dropped me and even made me feel like the enemy. I had no choice but to walk away. I get that they were emotional prisoners of abusive men, but there was nothing I could do to separate them from their abusers. In fact, I went away feeling abused, and in a couple of cases, in danger myself.

Years ago a lady came for a mamogram. The husband wanted to come in the back and that was not needed nor possible bc other women were their having mamograms. The lady passed a note and said her husband was controlling etc. What should they have done? Call the police and have a street clothed officer come and talk to her without the husband's knowledge? It was a wonder.

Didn't they have access to her address or the referral source? Ideally, such critical observation needs to be acted on. Someone could have tried to separate her, or pass a note back to ask if she needed immediate help and / or feedback to her local health professional?
