Hello Geoff what a lovely recipe brings back memories of winter days and warm homely cooking and my lovely mum l can remember steak and kidney suet puddings as well so tasty things seemed more flavourful when you were young and the long gone days when it was all dished up by your mum who had spent half the morning cooking it . Geoff do you think this would work in a pressure cooker l am also not sure how long it would need to cook for any ideas all the best ❤️❤️❤️
@geoffsbakingblog2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pixie B. I am glad the recipe brought back some memories. I am sure this could be made in a pressure cooker. I have seen a couple of recipes, where the dough was placed in a pudding bowl and then covered with pleated parchment paper and then with foil. One recipe cooked for 12 minutes and the other cooked for 30 minutes, both claimed success. I would try for 15 minutes and the release and test. It can always be covered and cooked for longer if necessary. The same could be done in a log shape, as long as the log doesn't stand in the water.

Hi Geoff 😃 My mother used the 'steam in a bowl' method for this but school used a huge tray (as I remember). An aunt used to oven bake hers. Still tasty (with a crunch from a brown sugar top) but different texture Good to see the classics not being forgotten. Hope everything is well with you All the best. Graham

Lovely recipe. Thank you for the advise on an alternative of how to steam the pudding as I don’t have a steamer. I was just about to ask this question when you mentioned it at the end of the video. Definitely going to make this.
@geoffsbakingblog2 жыл бұрын
Hi Wendy. Thanks very much. Yes you can steam this in a pan, with an upturned dish that holds the package out of the simmering water, and just keep it topped up and covered during the steaming.

Hi Colin. That was a Danish Dough Whisk. I bought two of them on Amazon. They are very good for easily mixing dough, as you could see. I hope you do make the spotted dick and enjoy it.

Hi Geoff... this is a new one for me...but nice to see what it really is now as I havd heard of it of course... hard to find suet for cooking with here in California I think but I will do some research... might be an Amazon purchase I should think.
@geoffsbakingblog2 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie-Joy. Amazon will have Atora shredded suet, beef and vegetarian versions. But it is likely to be expensive. That is what I use. However I think many butcher counters will have suet if you ask for it. If it comes in a slab/block maybe put it in the freezer and then grate it and toss it in a little flour before adding to the recipe.

Hi Geoff, I can cook most savoury dishes and am told I am a good cook BUT I cannot bake anything sweet, cakes, puddings or breads at all, it's a joke in the family. I have now made your flapjack and banana bread with walnuts, both were delicious and shocked the family that I made them. Thank you so much and have you any thoughts of bringing out a cookery book.

Hi Spiderbirdie, I saw somewhere that asking in a butcher's shop or at the butcher counter they often have suet, which could be frozen and grated. I also read that some stores have suet in the frozen turkey section.
