Love this tune. Played it with husband and our friend who played fiddle. Such a great tune.

How have I missed you, Christen, in my quest to learn how to bow a few melodies on the fiddle? You are a gifted and talented teacher! Thank you! I promise I will never attempt to hold my bow at the frog again. I was just bein' silly. Again, thank you, you're the best teacher I've found.

I would just like to say thank you to you Christen. I am from N.C. too, and at 64 years old I am learning to play old time fiddle with your help. Ma'am your tutorials are a fantastic learning tool for someone like me that plays by ear. You are the best teacher that I have seen yet. Oh, and by the way. I subscribed to your channel, and I hit the bell too!!

Brilliant. Focussing on the narrative, not one word too many, absolutely spot on.

Actually, Snow Shoes is the original title, from Tommy Jackson. The tune was misnamed many years ago through an error. Those things are hard to take back, and one reason so many fiddle tunes have more than one name! Anyway, congrats for the vídeo! You are a great teacher! 👏👏👏👏👏

Hi can you tell me what that device is that's attached to your violin, is it a tuner or a pickup, Many thanks, great lessons.

this was really fun to learn, thank you! I am a beginner/intermediate fiddle player and was wondering if there is sheet music for this version you would recommend as my husband is a beginner clarinet player and I am thinking we could try to play this together. I play by ear but he uses sheet music. Also how do you know what key the song is in and how would that effect playing with another person, I dont understand that yet

I’m sure I have sheet music for it somewhere but it might not be helpful for your husband since clarinet is a transposing instrument. When you are figuring out the key for a tune a good trick is to listen for the first and last pitch in each section. Spotted Pony begins and ends on the note name D, so it’s a safe (and correct) guess that this tune is in D. This is NOT always the case though, so be careful using this trick.
