I dealt with a guy who was really good once. It started with just a $20 and he masterfully distracted and confused me for way too long, changing his mind about what bills he wanted, etc. By the end of it there was around $80 on the counter and the only thing that saved me was remembering that he only started with a $20. For a small breakdown of those who didn't directly follow: He gives $50, gets a pack of gum and $48.91. Balance is 0. He throws in 2 more dollars with the $48 and gives it for the 50 dollar bill. Balance is 0. He gives you the other 50 dollars to get a 100 dollar bill. You've now got his 50 dollars and your 50 dollars in your hands. one simple way ive avoided problems with change is always leaving what the customer gives me in plain sight. i leave the bills they hand me on the counter top until i hand their change to them, so there is never a question what they used to pay.
