About 17 years ago I worked at a truck stop and a homeless guy gave me a roll of quarters, with quarters at both ends. Next day open them and it’s full of metal washers 😂😂

It is the copper 1943 's that are worth a lot, the real ones go easy north of $200-300K+ . IIRC about 20-25 years ago they(US gov,/ANA) thought there might be 6 or 7 not accounted, may be less now.

Also work at a gas station and we get rolls of coins too which is a pain. But we pretty much open them right then and there, checking if they are the right coins or if the wrong coins are in there or worst weights like washers to try and trick us. And this shows one of the reasons why we do that.

When I worked at the gas station I always opened up the rolls n counted the change no matter what. People would get mad at me saying " I'm not trying to scam you. " I'd just tell them " don't take it personal I'm just doing my job. "

@@--_DJ_-- I’m not certain but I think trying to do something like this, if they can prove you knowingly did it, is a far more serious crime than shoplifting. I think cops would chase this up (depending on the circumstances.) rather than shoplifting a can or two of Coke.

When i first started watching these years ago, i was such a bleeding heart. I was giving all kinds of suggestions thinking these ppl just needed a break. Years and many lessons later, boy did i have it all wrong. Now i appreciate that u have made use of these ppl for the entertainment of the public. Usually we hear, u get we u give .... but they give nothing whilst u give them exposure. A bleeding heart, i have learned, is nothing more than a criminal's fool.

I had someone try to pass a roll of quarters with a few nickels inside. I told them I had to open the roll to count the coins first and that was the end of it.

Something similar also happened to me. Customer had loose coins in sandwich bags, stating they were already counted and the amount. I told him he'd be done faster at the coinstar across the street because I would have to manually count the coins. He decided on waiting and when he saw that I was really ready to count, he changed his mind.

This happened to me when I first started working at McDonald's. Dude gave me a dime roll that had dimes on each end and pennies on the inside. How can you do that to someone lmao. People weren't raised right growing up. I was taught growing up that being a thief or a liar is one of the worst things you could be.

I had it done to me at McDonald’s when I was a manager. To open it you have to hit the dimes against the edge of the counter and it would crack open. I just laughed and he told me he “found it.” For the good laugh I gave him a fountain drink but kept the Pennie’s to show my workers as an example not to fall for this if it were to ever reoccur.

I NEVER EVER accept any rolled coin unless I open them up and count them all.... I have over 3 years of Casino cashier cage background, 1 yr bank teller, and over 10+ years cashiering experience in retail. I have YET to have someone successfully pull a fast one on me. @@gblargg That's unlikely, because you'd have to have a roll of dimes that are ALL silver, and if they were replaced with cents they'd all have to be post-1981 zinc-core cents (because those cents weigh 2.5 grams each: the same as silver dimes). If one or more of the dimes were clad rather than silver and if one of more of the cents was 95% copper, it would throw off the expected weight of the roll. The cashier would have to know the weight of a legitimate roll, based on all the above information. And, of course, the cents are larger in diameter than the dimes. One would have to be awfully unlucky AND stupid to be duped by this scam after weighing a roll of coins.
