Elms are exceptionally rare where I live - English elms are all sterile vegetative clones, making them particularly vulnerable to Dutch elm disease, so only a handful survive - I know of only one within twenty-five miles of my home. Seeing someone working with elm wood has been a treat. I love how the gunmetal grey resin allows the colours of the spalted wood come to the fore.

Love the result of inverting the two halves. I was at the dentist the other day and enquired about their old scalers, after some assurance from me that I wouldn't attempt home dentistry and a short wood turning explanation I came away with a bag of around 20 of them so thanks for that suggestion. I noted that it appears you have a go jig and a separate no go jig. Why didn't you just cut the two notches from one piece of board and simply invert to check the second option?

It is on the same board, I just flip it around. Good luck cleaning teeth, lol. Thanks

Elm trees and Dutch Elm disease: You are fortunate in that New York State lost just about all of its Elms starting heavily in the 1950's and carried on throughout the 1960's into the early 70's when all the known elms were dead and gone. By-the-way, elm boards were used extensively for flooring in horse stalls as it resisted horse urine.
