Some of the Dodge pickup air filters had a more open-type prefilter adhered to the pleated media for just such a reason. Helped to slow down the Alberta oilfield mud from clogging up the pleats, lol.

I know it completely depends on material being sprayed, volume, etc, but just a wild number, how often does that facility swap the media?

A lot of variables, filter square footage, filter velocity and amount of material sprayed all play a role. We measure pressure drop across the filter with a manometer to determine maintenance interval.
