In my experience, painting your own bike is a recipe for problems. This guy is a pro. He makes diy look so simple and for him it is. I’ve tried twice now to paint my bike and run into issues both times which rendered the job a waste. If I can be bothered with it I will be paying someone like this artisan to do it for me.

I love how you use montana's ETOE, Ive been a graffiti artist for 14 years and its my preferred paint for everything! I painted my track fairing for my motorcycle along with many bikes, always holds up and allows for nice paint fades and quality opaque colors. Good stuff man! You are reinforcing techniques I have been using for years, good to know I was doing it right from the beginning.

I've used MTN 94 for my motorcycle fairing and seems okay without clear coat so far.. been meaning to re-do them. Any reason to use the product mentioned in the video over MTN 94? if better, I might give that a try.. also have you put 2k clear on your finish? no issues?

Hi Moto, I tried Montana Gold but was getting blobs of paint all over. I noticed that nozzle gradually gets saturated and then it sputters the blobs. Any ideas how to avoid this?
@motowerkz3678
@motowerkz3678 Жыл бұрын
@@IraklisKourtis Hey man, the only way to avoid this honestly is cycling through multiple caps. Caps are super cheap, I would suggest getting a sample pack so you can test a bunch of different styles. Most likely you would want a "blue dot" cap. You want a low pressure cap meant for fading because they have better atomization. This modern day paint from the high end brand is SUPER opaque and thick so it has CRAZY coverage. So after using half a can or so of paint you will get some spatter because the paint is drying in the nozzle as you are spraying. hope that helps. also if you have a local graffiti shop, go support it.

Just finished painting my frame. It took me like 3 or 4 days of sripping the paint and sanding in free time. I used thinner to degrease the aluminium and then a light swipe with isopropilic alcohol to gwt rid of any residue from the thinner, hands, etc. Primed it (1 hand, light sanding and second hand). Let it cure for about 2 hours (fast dry primer in hot Mexico climate), apply a frost hand of white to the front part (faded front to back) let it sit for 15 min, apply secord hand of faded white and a light fade of black from back to front (i left a fade from white pait to grey primer to black paint as an undercoat). Let it sit for about 20 min and apply frost coat of pure metalic red, apply second coat of same metalic red, apply 1st coat of the final colour which is inferno red with flakes, apply second hand of inferno red, apply frost black fade from back to front, apply second fade hand of black in the same way, finally apply a detailing hand of black to get the perfect fade I was looking for and let it cure over night to apply 1st coat of clear coat tomorrow once the day heats up. Untill now, it seems perfect to me almost like a profesional custom paintjob to be honest. All thanks to this channel

I enjoy all your paint videos, and you inspired me to do also a bike painting. I used the color brand you recommended, but failed on things I didn't expected. 1. Glue of the Masking tape stuck on the color - (what is wrong? More Sanding between), I used 3M tabe and oramask) 2. Small paint chips after removing the masking tabe. I'm sorry to haven't made a video on that ☺️

Hey man. I just found this video because I was having a helluva time with the clear coat. Bought regular clear without the hardener. I had to sand this clear off multiple times because I kept getting orange peel, it didn’t harden, and not a smooth clear. For myself, I took the bike all the way down to the metal. Sprayed it with primer, sanded with 40 grit. Primed, then sanded with 60. Repeated this process all the way to 2000 grit where I wet sanded 1000, 1500, and 2000. An OG told me that was the best way to do it. Sprayed the color on and wet sanded with 3000. Sprayed color a 2nd time. Looked really good until the clear was put on. Found this video and I’m ordering the clear with the hardener. I think I’ll go 1000 grit after the first coat of clear and then spray the 2nd.
@BatisChannelYT
@BatisChannelYT 4 жыл бұрын
Instead of using that kind of sandpaper, you should use 3D sandpaper. If you are going to prime the bike you don't have to sand it to P800 because you simply are wasting your time, you have to do it up to 320 if you want or 400 then prime it, and sand it again to P800, then paint it. And you forgot to do or to tell (if you did it behind camera), to degrease the surface, otherwise there could appear defects on the finished bike. Before putting the clear coat, you have to sand it, not after putting the clear coat. Clear coat just has the waves that it has under it. How do I know it? I paint cars. By the way, the result was so good, you did extra work but you got a nice result! Keep it up, and take those as suggestions not as bad comment :)
@TheLineSeeker
@TheLineSeeker 4 жыл бұрын
Do you sand the colour then with 800?
@BatisChannelYT
@BatisChannelYT 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheLineSeeker If you have used those flakes you do sand it just to avoid them to get out the surface. But if you don't use flakes you just sand the primer, then paint and then the clear coat. Colour is only sanded if you use flakes or if there are some mistakes on it that you have to solve before the last coat.
@jacobs-h398
@jacobs-h398 4 жыл бұрын
At what point in the process do you degrease?
@BatisChannelYT
@BatisChannelYT 4 жыл бұрын
@@jacobs-h398 Before sanding you clean it just in case to remove particles that could scratch the surface. And once you sand you have to degrease because you will put primer on it. Then it depends on technique, if it is wet/wet you don't have to sand it to paint it, but if you have to sand because you use a different technique, then you have to degrease again.

I have a couple of questions about the use of Masking tape and decals/stencils. What length of time do you recommend for laying down the masking tape/decals prior to the next coat and when would you remove them after the next coat. Also is there a special technique to get clean lines and how many coats are too much for when you use decals.

So, on a naked frame, primer, sand (I THINK wet sanding with 800 grit?) primer, sand (I THINK wet sanding with 800 grit?), paint, clear coat, sand (wet sanding with 800 grit), clear coat. Wait 1 day between primer coats. 1 day before painting. 1 day before clear coat. 1 day between top coat layers. I believe that you can speed that up if it's warm (like 25 Celcius). I'm in the process of doing this myself with cheap products that seem to work very well so far. Thanks ETOE!

Instructions unclear... My frame now looks like a cheese grater with all the holes I've drilled in it. Well atleast my masculinity is intact.

Martin.....dude! My favourite video yet! You calling people “pussies” made me crack up and I am not offended. I have painted many frames using spray cans, but cheap US stuff Krylon. These cans are not 2 part with hardener. I will be painting 4 bike frames soon. 1. Schwinn Scrambler 26r, Schwinn Scrambler 29r adventure, Schwinn Cruiser, and a 1949 Schwinn Hollywood girls cruiser that will carry Hula Hoops. The Hula Hoop bike will have 5 different colors, fades. The other 3 frames will have a single color.... metallics. Also I am DIY welding and designing from scratch using Schwinn tubes from recycled Schwinn Varsity road frames! These up-cycled tubes will be used in the first 2 frames. The Acrambler 26f will be a tribute 16” wheel bmx bike. The Scrambler 29r will be a modern adventure bike with a custom frame pack. Both of these Scrambler bikes will have the same look as the 1979-1982 Schwinn Scrambler bmx bikes. I will send pics and I will be doing my first videos ever! You are my favourite painter and the best! Warm Regards, Tim in Boulder, ColoRADo (USA)

A couple of quick questions as I am starting my project today, 1) Should I use dry or wet sand, between epoxy primer coats and what grit should I use? 2) I am sandblasting my 1988 Panasonic DX 2000. Would it be best to wet sand after I sand blast? And should I use the scouring cream to wash it after I have sandblasted? I am concerned that rust could start to form almost immediately on the steel frame. Thank you again for these awesome videos, I have watched them many times and look forward to making you proud :)

Spray cans have a lot of propellant and don't.put much paint on compared with even a mini spray gun # the finish can look good when sprayed but will dull.off and has a very thin layer of paint ! Put extra coats on , be patient inbetween coats

Martin, your work is amazing. This DIY inspired me to try. I'm running into an issue and don't WTF im doing wrong. 1. Sanded Frame. 2. Primed and Sanded again. Finish was nice and smooth. I'm using the Montana Black Cans, Shock White, when spraying this the paint surface after drying is very sticky and really rough, almost textured, leathery looking and feeling. Not sure if its dust or what, when priming this did not happen. Thanks for sharing your master pices.
