I am a Master dental technician that has practiced his craft for over 50 years and I love it when a master such as yourself shows such a high level of perfectionism! Hopefully this young painter sees this video and refines his skills by paying attention to your suggestions. Some people will say that you are hyper picky of this paint job but what you’ve showed if the difference in a truly “PRO” paint job and a “good” paint job! This young painter may turn in to a great painter some day but he isn’t there quite yet! The difference between “good” and “exceptional” may only be that last 10% that we put into our project but that is what will demand a 100% or 200% increase in our fee and for those that demand excellence it is worth every penny! Great tutorial and very gracious of you to share your experience!

Thanks Martin for this Video, it's great to hear you critique another painter. I know that Kandy paint is expensive and the effect paint for the lettering and the clearcoat are good quality and cost a lot too. I don't understand why the frame wasn't prepared by sanding (Sandra) or blasting, first? I was taught that *PREPARATION IS EVERYTHING* and a clean bare frame without the derailleur hanger and badge on the head tube would have made a better foundation for an excellent paint job instead of an average paint job. Many thin coats are better than one or two thick coats, it is easier for the solvents to flash off and you achieve better depth of colour. The other thing that I noticed was no sanding pad when he was sanding the clear. It's easy to leave "finger ridges" if you don't use a sanding pad. Thanks again, Martin. 👍✌

You have three iwata spray Guns dedicated for primer base or clear, a car size spray booth with downwards air flow and heating system, a workshop to work in, and a top notch plotter for your stencils. He's using what looks like a cheap touch up gun for everything, with no or very little equipment and spraying in his backyard, and still getting pretty impressive results

The treks use the seat mast that goes over , not inside, you can see where it stops at the beginning of the video , it's bare carbon and the carbon mast goes over it , there is no other way to mount the seat post or in this case mast , it might even not be able to fit becuase of the piant increasing the diameter of the mast , so it's going to get destroyed or fused and stuck ,when the client puts his mast on, or at least have to use some magic lube , very sloppy , the painter must study the factory techniques, usually you just add weight when doing a diy job 😉

Good lord, 2 component clear coat without protective equipment and a high CFM fan?? This is cancer in a (spray) booth! Also I would note Martin, although you are of course correct that flattening the gap between the decal and the colour is important and professional, it is incredible how many factory paint jobs fresh from the bike shop have a big gap between the decal and the colour.
