Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. I just received a rescue chicken who came with mites and a few other issues. She's very sweet and I'm hoping to get her to full strength soon so she can join my little backyard flock.

Glad it was helpful! Mites are pretty easy to get under control with treatment. Best of luck with your new chicken and I hope she's ready to join the others soon!

What is your dilution ratio?

Would you recommend dipping the hen in a 5 gallon bucket if the infestation is very bad? Does spraying just those three places give the bird complete coverage for bugs that may not be there at the time?
@ChickenHues2 жыл бұрын
I’ve found a thorough dusting or spray to take care of most of the mites. Dipping them is also fine as long as the weather is nice. I’ve come to the conclusion that mites are almost impossible to eradicate of chickens are outside much. Therefore, I aim for getting almost all of them and treating when I can actually see them.

Is there a difference between the permethrin and elector PSP? Have you heard of sticky fleas?
@ChickenHues3 жыл бұрын
I am not very familiar with elector PSP. Permethrin is the actual ingredient that will kill the lice and mites. Elector PSP is more expensive m, so I’m guessing they use different ingredients.
@ChickenHues3 жыл бұрын
No, I have not heard of sticky fleas. We may not have them here.
@wolfcat879 ай бұрын
Elector is completely different. Permethrin is a nerve toxin. Elector is an enzyme that kills better and for longer with no toxins.

Hi! My hens are having bold red spots, they don't scratch, I treated them and their coops with diatomea earth, they were better, I can't see mites, they keep giving eggs, can you help me? Thank you.
@ChickenHues2 жыл бұрын
Where are the bald spots? They also can sunburned, so bald spots during summer can turn bright red. It could be rooster damage and some breeds simply have poor quality feathers because their energy goes into laying.
@mariasommer81512 жыл бұрын
@@ChickenHues Thank you, we have so much heat here in Texas, the bald spots are on their chests and neck, no rooster here, they have plenty of running water, every morning I give them a mix, laying pellets, dry corn and oyster shells, I add a little of apple vinegar and oil, plus electrolytes, flaxseed and some veggie leftovers, plus frozen corn.. I can't see mites or lice. I was rubbing on the spots a homemade cream I made for myself, they improved, now I can't find the recipe, thank you for answer

That’s odd places for bald spots. There may also be some feather picking going on with your hens.

Hi! Do you know if the Mites will get tolerant towards it and will need to use something stronger in the future?
@ChickenHues10 ай бұрын
I’ve read that they eventually do. It’s good to switch products.

Best way is buy #7 garden dust, second buy Vaseline, melt the Vaseline, until water consistency then you add two tablespoons or three of the seven garden powder let it harden and apply under the wings and on the vent of the chickens and you will have no more problems.

my rooster has some flease on his comb can i still use permethrin?

I wouldn’t put it on his comb or anywhere by his face.

No! It’s external.

Do you spray the coop as well?
@ChickenHues3 жыл бұрын
I don’t but I usually have northern mites that stay on the chickens. I add dust to the nest boxes and change them. Red mite is one yay you want to spray everything.
@ChickenHues5 жыл бұрын
I’ve never done this with chicks. Unless I saw mites or lice on them I wouldn’t try it. Then you may be better off with “poultry protector” spray if it’s ok for chicks. Once they’re fully feathered (4 weeks?) I would use this only if I actually saw the bugs on them.
@mdouglas65782 жыл бұрын
No matter how you look at it, this is a pesticide that you're putting on the animal. I use Poultry Protector by Mana Pro works just as well without the neurotoxins
@ChickenHues2 жыл бұрын
I’ve used it and the mites walk right through it. It is more of a preventative and doesn’t do much once there is an infestation.

As long as they are 10 days old

I heard from some people if you are using this product that you have to dip the whole bird except for their neck and head. If it necessary to wash them after to remove the pyrethrins?
@ChickenHues6 жыл бұрын
You can completely dip them in a diluted solution. We just spray them like in the video and seems to work fine. No, don't wash them because the pyrethrin is what kills the mites. Just make sure you follow the directions to make the proper strength mixture.
@rhiannonfugatt32696 жыл бұрын
Thanks, just trying to find the most efficient way to deal with this. First time we have had lice and I have around 50 chickens, five different yards and different breeds. It's mostly my silkies and the egg layers that have them. I treated all the bantams regardless because they roost in a tree at night. I am positive this all came from the wild doves who visit the chicken yards to steal food. So covering the whole top up now so they can't get in.

Many of mind don’t either. It’s best done when it’s dark and they’re on the roost. I use a headlamp. 😂
