The symbolism in this production is truly insane. I love how Otto's outfit looks like a sailor's uniform and the formation of the cast around him looks like a boat ahhhhh its absolutely gorgeous. And I'm in love with the human tree at the end, it's so poetic.
@Ally-yk2gw6 жыл бұрын
Steph Piano Actually it was a pretty common Outfit for Kids and Teenager in 1890s Germany... It is quite accurate, the others though, are more adult outfits than actually teenagers and kids, except for the short which were only for kids. For the guys at least. And honestly I don't know how it is for the girls, probably still too revealing 😅 Anyway this is what I learned on German history classes so far, and I kinda seem to be the only one noticing tbh

I really enjoy this version, because first of all it is one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever seen, but also because the dynamic between Melchior and Moritz is so prominent here. Without the scene in between where Moritz leaves, we get to truly see the interaction between them, and especially when they dance together. For me, it creates a clearer picture of their actual relationship, compared to the more ambiguous and speculated one. What I’m saying is that they are not completely straight for sure lmao

On my millionth viewing of this video, I notice that it is once again perfect because it puts the focus solely on the cast, particularly the Deaf cast, instead of moving the focus to the voice actor. While obviously the voice actors are just as much a part and do brilliant work, it is special and wonderful to see the emphasis put on the Deaf cast because they typically don't get that (cough cough the freaking Tony awards). I was looking for Alex Boniello and the other musicians, but I couldn't really see them anywhere, except Daniel Stewart on piano (because you can't really move the piano well).

Forever bitter that this show was so poorly represented at the Tonys. They could have _at least_ gotten a Best Choreo nod, or won for Best Revival. (because lbr, 99% of why The Color Purple won was because Cynthia Erivo is fucking stellar, but she already won for Best Actress sooo...).

If it makes you feel better, this is actually the second production Deaf West brought to Broadway- they had a production of Big River in the '90s that made it as well. I'm hoping that they'll get another show onto Broadway (hopefully sooner than 15 years this time lol) and keep the momentum going. Between the fact that they had Marlee Matlin (a Deaf actor some hearing people actually know) involved and all the positive buzz this got, they should hopefully have enough momentum to get their next project here too. And if that happens enough, New York Deaf Theatre might start building on that momentum too.
