Time to get cultured AF again, my friends. Let's explore the symbolism and allusions in Spring Day; a profound story about friendship, loss, and what it takes to heal.
sorry my voice is so rough in this one, friends. I re-recorded this so many times and hated every single take, so i kind of just picked one and ran with it haha. I hope you enjoyed :)

Another mv meaning Jungkook= the dying friend Jimin= the friend of jungkook Yoongi = dispare Jhope= hope Namjoon= time Jin = life Taehyung = death The sewol sinking accident. Junkook is sewol victims. Jimin waited at shore for his friend (jungkook) to return from the ship. Rm (time) leading us through events of jk's slow death. The pile of cloths belongs to the victims who died. Hope (jhope) dispare (yoongi) and time (Namjoon) are what the victims loved ones are experiancing standing infront of omelas. Life (jin) watches through the port wholes represented through the washing machine the victims struggling and he knows they will eventually drown. Time (Namjoon) and death (v) speak about the fait of the victims (jungkook) on the bench afar from life (jin). The friend (jimin) is still waiting for his friend to return losing hope (jhope) isnt anywhere near. The victim (jungkook) realizes he's going to die but still tries to fight for his life but no one is around anymore but its no use no one can hear him or reach him in time. When the train passes and the match goes out he accepts his fait when death (v) is caught up too him he dies. The friend (jimin) finds his shoes washed up on shore and he knows immediately his friend has died. Hope comforts the friend (jimin) during the train ride. After all the time it took to heal jimin finally escapes the train it has stopped after all the pain he felt losing his best firend is ending. The snow is finally melting winter is ending. With the rest of the boys watching behind including even the best friend (jungkook). Jimin takes the shoes representing his bestfriend a life that's ended and puts it on the tree witch represents new life bringing them together so he can now finally move on past the winter past the grief to spring day.

Agree. This was a tribute to those who died in the tragedy and to those who felt the strong guilt of surviving from it. Many wanted to commit suicide. Since the tragedy, even one of the civilian diver who retrieved the deceased bodies ended up committing suicide out of the unbearable guilt of not being able to bring them all back to the surface because some are still hard to recover and the government at that time made them stop the search. He also probably felt haunted by the images of the deceased and the condition he found them. May they all rest in peace 🕯️💐

When I first saw the MV, I knew it was a beautiful MV. After this, I actually understand the meaning behind it and it is even more beautiful to me now. Watching this, I was literally trying not to cry.......it's a really symbolic and incredible MV. This is one of the many reasons why I love BTS. Take the music videos of today's rappers or pop artists. They have no deeper meaning. They are honestly don't seem like there was much thought put into them. This MV obviously needed a lot of thought and BTS definitely intended this to be the message. Their music videos continue to amaze me when I compare them to other music videos out there because of the message that comes across when you put the pieces together. They are honestly incredible. I love what they are doing and how they are using the advantage of having a large and global audience to bring awareness to these kinds of topics. Now excuse me, I think I'm gonna go listen to Spring Day on repeat for a while :')

I literally started crying when she was talking about lonely they feel. Bts puts so much effort and love in their music and music videos. Bts helped me at a time where I was hurting, hating myself, and feeling so alone. I felt unwanted. I almost committed suicide. But then I discovered them and they showed me I'm not alone. That they care and love me. I love the song spring day. That's how I started listening to bts. This was the first song I listen on my journey to becoming an army. Like you said I knew spring day was a powerful and beautiful song but I didn't understand the music video to it. But now after watching this it makes so much more sense and it makes it even more beautiful.

What's most amazing to me is that there is room in the song and MV for every one of the theories: the ones focused on suicide, literary and film references, the Sewol Ferry Tragedy, and the BU storyline. And essentially, it can be as simple as comfort for loss. I know RM is a genius, but how fortuitous that everyone around him worked with the same care and brilliance to make this song.

Hey, if you know about the storyline that Big Hit Entertainment created in the music videos, then the snow piercer reference also kind of has a connection there? Like, in the storyline Jin is the protagonist who time travels and everytime something goes wrong he goes back to a certain date to fix that error and save his friends. It's like a never ending cycle in time. Idk it's just interesting to think about.
@CarolineForest
@CarolineForest 4 жыл бұрын
yeah. I think this MV goes several layers... the top later is the stroyline, its the most 'obvious' once you watch the storyline progress, thats the first connection... then the next level splits into 2 and depending on what you read, write and watch, you either see this meaning, meaning you have taken the time to read the short story, etc. the other one is the sewol ferry incident, the ribbons are yellow just like the sewol ferry ribbon campaign as well as the suicide awareness campaigns, and I dont belive either theory to be wrong, I think they are all correct at the same time.

Its so touching to know the real meaning of their video. It's really hard to move on when your in pain. But this video inspires me to not block the pain from feeling it because it'll just worsen. Indeed, pain, loneliness, missing someone you know will never go back, demands to be felt by our hearts and that the Good thing is , we should embrace it until we can finally accept and move on.

okay, I literally never comment on videos ever and I know I'm very late to this, but I just have to say that this is so beautiful and I appreciate all the work you put into this video. I've heard a number of different theories and caught a bunch of the symbols, but you did an outstanding job at putting it all together. This music video has always been one of my favourites and now I can appreciate it with an even deeper understanding. BTS have really changed my life in so many ways and it's so touching to see how far they've come and how their friendship has developed, as well as how their voice (through their music and otherwise) has grown. I just want to thank you again for your stunning interpretation, it's very close to my heart. I cried throughout this whole video. p.s. your voice is actually gorgeous

I’m a new ARMY and when I listened through their albums I wasn’t really like Spring Day. Than I watched the MV. When V put down his head to the train tracks I brusted out in tears (I struggle with suicidal thoughts time to time). I watched the MV over and over that night with and without lyrics. I cried a lot. Than I learned about the Sewol Ferry tragedy. I know it’s not confirmed by the company neither the boys but fits well. And this explanation as well. What great about music and art in general is that it can mean a lot of stuffs depend on the consumer. And BTS is really great about adding lot of layers to their music and art. Now Spring Day is on my sad BTS music list (the Black Swan list) because most of the times when I hear it I brust into tears. But sometimes we should let ourselves a good cry. Thank you for this explanation!❤️

that why spring day and bts mean so much to me. I experienced a alarming ammount of pain and depression in my childhood. I was abused by mother, and no one helped me out of that situation. I attempted scuicide twice durring those years. I was so hurt and depressed, i didnt think i was going to live to see my 13th birthday. I deffinately owe bts my life for giving me one of my main reasons to live. All of the familly close to me knew of at least some amount of the abuse. but did nothing. I can never really forgive them for that. besides them, there is only 1 other person who I truly would live for. This song and it slyrics was what I wanted my friends to see and hear if i ever died of scuicide. Because it talks about scuicide and getting over it. It was going to kind of be my last message to them. that I was no longer in pain and in a better place. At 15 now, its been 5 years since my first attempts and on comming 6 in november. Im not in as bad of a situation as before, and I am mentally more stable now, but this song will always have so much meaning for me.

I just watched this video and I’m crying because all the signs of symbolism I caught onto but didn’t understand all just flashed back and I understand grief, it’s very common for me and I’ve had lots of it this year, instead of losing loved ones to suicide I’ve lost them to change, they choose others over me and leave me behind causing me to have extreme grief and wonder what I did wrong and then I gather myself and soon realize who my real friends are and they help me catch back up to where I was before. Also amazing video and I hope don’t have bad times in the new year! 💜💜 purple you and merry new year

This is awesome bc I love how you tied the three parts together into a coherent whole that made me see the MV differently. The only thing I would add is that the yellow ribbons symbolize the Sewol Ferry Incident and that ties into not just yellow ribbons for suicide awareness but also the greed, corruption and ultimately selfishness of the government or corporations which would be the child in Omelas upon who's everyone fake happiness is standing until people find out. The death of someone, either suicide or not, would be a wake up to reality event that launches you into grief and having to face the darkness and the reality of your fake happiness. And that's the effect the Ferry Incident had on South Korea as well as using the yellow ribbons to bring awareness to the issues of suicide and mental illness in general. So that's how it fits into it for me. Thanks so much for this vid. It was so helpful.

Ah i really, really appreciate this comment. I knew about the Sewol Ferry tragedy, and i wanted to talk about it here, but i felt like it would come across as more of a tangent in an otherwise cohesive video. BUT- i love your interpretation so much! Very well said! Anyways, thanks so much for the support and kind words :))

i always took Spring Day as an emotional song and i knew about the small story behind it to some extent, buT FUCK this video gave me a whole different perspective on the lyrics and the symbolism in the video making the whole song 10x sadder. Thanks. No but seriously thank you this was amazing i had a nice cry lmao.

This was an amazing video. I had already figured out the references to Omelas ,shoes and loss of loved one. But i never really understood what the other elements represented. I thought this song revolved just around the loss of a loved one but u ve enlightenment me on the deeper meaning. And once again, ur theory has blown my dumb mind lol
