Using imagery from Demian by Herman Hesse, BTS explore the loss innocence, and ties these themes to the characters in their existing fictional universe. The MVs of the wings album will have important symbolism. BigHit is really an intellectual. I recommend to read Demian which is a novel. I love this mv (my opinion) I also love how they are intellectual 🧐

I can't thank you enough for this video, and I'd like point out that pose at 8:44 is known as Arch Of Hysteria, used to mimic the position of a serial killer named by Jeffrey Dahmer victim's body. Dahmer had obsession of portraying his victims as trophies. I know what this means. Actually I've seen many theories related to BST and one of them said that V is shown as an fallen angel (the scene in which tae has scars on him where his wing should be, this suggest that he is a fallen angel). Now after he killed his father as we saw in "I need U" MV, he jumped into the sea as shown in Euphoria MV and committed the utmost sin which is suicide. He then wanted other members to do the same and go to the evil world with him( remember Joon's lines in BST? he said '' HE TOO WAS A TEMPTER (talking about V) HE TOO WAS THE LINK TO THE SECOND WORLD, THE EVIL WORLD WHICH I NO LONGER WANTED/HAD ANYTHING TO DO. Now, yoongi playing the piano in BST was shown as a clue that yoongi has also lost himself and committed the utmost sin which is suicide (he set his room on fire and committed suicide in the "I Need U" MV). Now at last the answer to your question is that suga is also a fallen angel, he could also show the statue to jin BUT I think that the directors or BTS themselves decided that it would be more appropriate to use V to close Jin's eyes and show him the statue because he was the first to commit that sin.

Thanks for taking the time to explain Demian & Icarus to those of us who have never encountered them or only have surface-level knowledge. Building up from what you said about this being a coming-of-age story, specially about finding the 'real' you and embracing both your darkness and light side, this can also be seen as a sexual awakening. Besides the sensual feel to the song and video, you mentioned how the video uses imagery of light (Jin staring at the painting with 2 doors that is light and dark.) The light is associated to the color white, which means purity. Purity is also associated to youth. As one comes of age, they face various temptations, and face the start of their sexual exploration. As you grow up, you embrace the dark as part of yourself and become more comfortable with your sexuality. As you come of age, you accept that the 'pure' image of youth will change. You begin to embrace both purity and sexuality in life.

This is a good analysis, but I am surprised that you didn't even mention Jung once, when his theories are central to the book, and not Nietzsche's. Nietzsche is important in the book for sure, and you could use him to make these points, but the book is expressively Jungian. Herman Hesse himself underwent psychoanalysis by Jung, and became fascinated with his perspectives on life, on the conscious and unconscious, on archetypes and the insight into the essence of man.

Exactly. It is such a good analysis, that I was waiting throughout for Jung to make his appearance! If ever these was a work of literature embodying Jung's theories, it must by Hesse's Demian. Especially considering that Jung has now taken center stage in the Bangtan Universe, with the "Map of the Soul" series (Persona, Shadow, Ego). It needs to be pointed out that Jung is not new to BTS, he has been there all the time, ever since the Wings era. (I am waiting to find out if there is a reference to BS&T on "Seven"...) I was also surprised that the painting in the background of V's jump from the balcony wasn't pointed out. It is a painting of the Fall of Icarus. If you look at the complete painting, you can see that Icarus has fallen into the sea, but you only see one of his legs sinking. This is, however, NOT shown in the musicvideo, and is a good example of how subtle (and almost invisible) the references can be. Also, it should have been pointed out that the odd creature forming the pattern on the wallpaper in Jin's "Awake" is actually none other than ABRAXAS. And kudos to the person who made the video for realizing that Buxtehude's Passacaglia is derived from Demian! ###

You're not wrong that, "Demian," is Jungian, but the OP is also right that it's Nietzschean. Hesse was heavily influenced by Nietzsche, as was Jung. Jung had a bit of an obsession with Nietzsche, esp., "Thus Spake Zarathustra," the Apollo/Dionysus duality & the death of moralism/"will to power." Indeed, it would be fruitless to discuss Jung's psychoanalytic model, his views on archetypes, the collective unconscious, the psyche, etc. without reference to Nietzsche, thus it makes no sense to posit that Hesse's work is exclusively Jungian. Hesse's, "Demian," like most of his work, explored themes that he found in both Nietzsche & Schopenhauer - his allegories can be viewed as an attempt to synthesize the seemingly opposing views of the two philosophers. While it's true that the reader can see Jung's imprint in the allegory explored in, "Demian," it's equally true that it's a direct descendant of Nietzsche's, "Beyond Good and Evil."

I really wanted to thank you for creating this beautiful video, because when I first started getting into BTS in 2018, I watched this video and was just so amazed by your great analysis of Blood Sweat and Tears.
