@allyn have you read about no dig, where you don’t dig or disturb the soil surface instead you apply organic matter/compost to the surface. This allows the structure of the soil to establish and support plant roots better because the soil provides anchorage and the soil microbes work better because they’ve established connections. Less weeds as the soil not recovering, weeds normally grow when soil been disturbed and is recovering. I

Last two seasons I've used a liquid aerator and it HAS made a difference. We have a very rainy winter (PNW) and it definitely wasn't as sopping wet this last winter. I am having core aeration done this year for the first time. I have clay based soil so it definitely will need it. But for the most part, I will attest to the liquid stuff working on my lawn.

Hi Allyn! I am in Upstate NY, my soil temp was 47 yesterday, but at the road, in my neighborhood, next to the curb I saw 3" tall crabgrass clumps. I decided to throw down! I started with Scotts 3 in 1. Also, I have a huge moss problem! In a few areas, it is 2" deep!!! I threw down Scott's moss killer. So as a beginner, this is my first real investment to take control of my lawn, it is looking horrible now. First, I measured my lawn areas and did the math for pounds on the ground (18,000 sf, all in, I spent about $200ish). I applied with a hand spreader because that is what I am comfortable with. My goal this year is to kill the moss, get healthy infill growth and reduce weeds, I have crabgrass, plantain, and creeping charlie, and a few other minor weeds. By far my biggest problem is moss. Am I on the right track? Thanks for all the information, I love your videos!

I have tall fescue in Las Vegas. First day of spring. I did my first mow of the year. I took a chance and instead of 3in1 I put some patch master in some big bare spots that I have from my dog and threw some seed down in thin areas along with starter and organic fertilizer and I know it’s a pass/fail in the spring but had these open bags that I wanted to use. Front and back yards total barely 1000sqft. One of the few remaining lawns in my neighborhood. If I get some gains great. If not, I’ll hit it hard in the fall. Your channel influences me greatly to take care of my small plot of land. 🙏

a note on the green county products, 18 0 1 and micro green. I applied both of these on the same day at the lowest rate to TTTF, and ended up with an off brown dull colored grass with dark almost purple speckles on the leaf blades, indicating way too much iron. Im sure it will recover, but have learned never to use two or more products together at the same time with iron in each, creating a total above what is healthy for the grass being worked on, even if there is no indication on the labeling

I just can't wrap my head around a liquid doing the same thing as mechanical.... Mechanical, we are plugging actual plugs and opening the ground up. Then we are able to get air. Water. And nutrients 4-6" down. I also do a pre-emergent appl after mechanic aeration.

I'm in South Florida and I feel like I really have to adjust most of the advice I get on this channel and other lawn care channels because the conditions are similar, but such a different animal even from Central Florida. I've been putting down Sunniland's Iron Plus and Weed n Feed periodically throughout winter and a few small apos of Milo and my lawn is poppin. I'm about to try the N-ext bio pack, minus the Air8 which I sub'd with D-Thatch because I don't really have compaction issues at the moment. My point is, repitition of Allyn's advice has brought me to the point where I finally truly understand what is going on in my yard. "Eventually it will all just click" is something he says frequently, and it has. It really is all about good soil health in preparation for the summer months. Preparedness for battle. I'm a former Marine and I live across the street from a former sailor, so when he comes over to ask what I'm doing to my yard that makes it look like the 4th of July is next weekend, the natural order of everything feels alligned. Ironically, I had to borrow his truck to go get some new palms. Go figure. Thank you, Sir.

Also, could you do a video on how to properly mow with a zero turn mower? Hey Alan, I know your busy but I have an important questions. My local stores seem to only carry lesco 0 -0-7 my weather is 50’s right now but some days high 50s. I bough 6 big bags of 007. But I am not sure when to put down. The bag says late April which seems to late as the grass is looomg greener each day and by late April it will be green. It’s fescue. Each bag covers 17k and my yard is about 4 times this. I use a Scott’s mini spreader. Also, can I put down seed after I apply the 0-0-7. I don’t want to screw up my lawn. Last year crab grass took over my lawn so I need some help. I called a local company to just spray but I don’t trust them. They didn’t seem all that knowledgeable and smelled like they had a few beers before arriving
