Yes definately more of these 'how to' videos. As a single hander using springs, and spring bridles, (set up as slip-lines) is a very useful way of getting on and off a dock. And I am very impressed that you have bow and stern thrusters and didn't use them - that is classy.

Thanks! We're working on more how to's :-) Its been fun getting to know the new boat and I've been practicing the close quarters maneuvering.

Very prudent and safety minded to practice the new boat without the thrusters. You know that things seem to fail at the worst possible time, but you will be prepared. Like the educational videos very much.

Hey Capt'n Pat. You know I love your vids { HELL of a lot of work, single handing .} My son bought me, us , A C&C 25 about six years ago. He works on the lakers here in Canada. He showed me the spring line and it's importance for all sorts of big and small ship, boat, handling in harbour. Only diff between the big ship lines and ours was , 3" steel and five eight's poly . lol.

Hi Patrick. Yes it is nice seeing you checking out the other channels. Like I've said many times before you are right up there with the best as far as sailing videos go on the net. I knew of, Paul & Sheryl almost 30 years ago in Toronto when they first began there amazing journey. I am meeting up with them in the Canary Islands in November to do the Transatlantic crossing. I will be 27 days with them and I can tell you I am over the moon about it. You take care and keep your videos coming. I do look forward to each and everyone of them.

P&S...this sort of information is excellent !!! We only need look at how people secure dock lines to cleats, to realize we live in an age of "credit card captains" !! How to handle a yacht in various situations, is so very important for people to know. A Standing Ovation from Mary & I !!!

That bow spring and fender cast-off was the first technique I got taught when I got my first boating license. If you have a rudder that is in the prop wash, steering into the dock will help you turn faster, which is really neat I in a tight spot... :-)

Distant Shores TV it is certainly a skill to master. I grew up being the line handler for my dad. Now he is gone I had to learn the moves pretty quick. Having no thrusters and a wicked prop walk going astern makes life exciting around structures! I am glad to be on a swing Mooring. Cheers. Wade

Very nice! I really enjoyed using prop walk/wash to get onto the dock. We need more videos like this, and more captains to watch them. I watched the captain of a large catamaran recently try to use his two engines to shimmy up to a dock between two other cats when all he needed to do was let the wind blow him onto the dock and just maintain fore and aft position. After watching your video, I realized I could learn a new trick or two myself.

Guys. Good and informative. Springing off on the bow or stern can get you out of so many tight spots! When coming in to a pontoon or dock the centre cleat first gives the helm the ability to drive the boat or pull the boat into position in wind or tide situations. Be good to see you demo this on your new boat. Left the Solent 1st June currently Port St Denis Bay of Biscay heading South like you. Sail Safe and fair winds. Ant & Cid xx

So very well done again and I love that you always wear your safety gear even in the harbor, at all times. That is what my wife and I always did also. I only wish more people, ALL boaters did the same. We know of people, too many, that have died at the docks and when entering the harbor as well as when out to sea. Many were avoidable by simply ALWAYS wearing your safety gear when topside on your boat.
