It doesn't matter where you fish Paul when we go on a trip fishing we can always find like minded anglers that love to talk about how they are doing and eager to listen to our own stories Looking forward to next outing Cheers Iain 🥃

Great video again Iain it’s a shame you didn’t connect again as the water looked bang on, still I enjoyed it very much it’s just a matter of when and where you can’t be too far away from a fish now. Cheers🍷Steve.

It can be a different place in the summer. rain is needed to keep the river level up to entice fish to run . with damp conditions come the dreaded Midge and they can be a nightmare. the catches can be terrific that's why I am going to try and go again summer time 👍. Cheers Iain 🥃

as well as the salmon fishing there are quite a few trout locks in Caithness . The locals are very friendly which makes a stay in the area worthwhile. Cheers Iain 🥃

Getting harder each trip for salmon fishpal catches low as well for the big rivers to not worth the money now.

A lot of the beats struggle to make ends meet James most beats on rivers have to pay a levy on what the authorities think the value is . I know that some beats don't make any money. SEPA are trying to eliminate hatcheries which is the only way to keep our salmon numbers at a level that will attract anglers

Oh well, next time but as you say it's not all about the 'tight line'. The weather seems to have held for you both which has to be a plus especially up there. You've cast a line on this river quite a few times over the years Iain and I wonder if you've seen a general decline in salmon which many but not all rivers have seen recently? 😎👍👍

The Thurso is one of those rivers that haven't been affected with reduced almond numbers the first time I fished a spring week there was 24 salmon came off the river and I had 5 . This year I think there was 28 for the week and I never caught anything but I know that one angler had 5 ........ right place right time That's fishing Cheers Iain. 🥃

Lots of effort and lots of money for very little reward unfortunately !! There is something definitely wrong with our wild Atlantic salmon runs
@IainSB
@IainSB Жыл бұрын
SEPA are trying to put a stop to hatcherys. they seem to think that it is affecting our wild stock . At least the fish originate from the same rivers as they are released in. The hatchery's that the salmon farms use are full of things of unknown origin and every year there are tens of thousand escape to spread disease into our wild stock and SEPA do nothing Its been my opinion that has been the biggest problem for years . Cheers Iain 🥃

Well 3 days on the Thurso is not cheap, they say it’s normal to do 7 trips until you can get that elusive fish. 7 trips on a trout fishery might be £250 and I’m sure you will catch plenty. But salmon fishing will soon enough be done anyway and we will all be on the trout. A terrible season thus far on so many rivers across Scotland, counts are shocking . Plenty of friends now thinking why pay for rubbish fishing.

Hi Angus If we all went fishing on trout fisheries , I think that it would be bit overcrowded . You are pricing salmon fishing on a different perspective from a lot of anglers . I am a member of Perth and District A A and for less than £250 you could fish nearly every day for salmon on the Tay and its tributaries and have discounted trout fishing on quite a few rivers and Lochs in Perthshire . it doesn't have to be as expensive as you make it out to be you just cut the cloth to whatever suits yourself and the best thing is to enjoy life and your fishing. I hope that you can enjoy your fishing and I know that there are some anglers that have lots in their lives that have to be payed for before they go fishing and families have to come first and I am fortunate that I have friends that invite me and their company is a big part of my day on the river Cheers Iain.

It was a shame that local salmon decided not to volunteer themselves for a bit of sport on this trip, but that's life - c'est la vie. The truth is, the absence of a fish made very little difference to the enjoyment. It had been several years since Iain and I had spent a few days fishing together because, understandably, he had been dedicated to looking after his wife during her illness. I suspect neither of us will want to leave it so long before we repeat the experience and, in any event, my casting is cr@p, so I need all the practice I can get! The weather was grim on the first day - blowing a hoolie, freezing cold and raining. There's nowhere bleaker that the Caithness flow country when the conditions are like that. Fortunately, the other two days were much more pleasant. But in the end, who cares about the weather, or the salmon. More importantly, it was really good share a few beers and a laugh with Iain each evening in the bar. We may not have caught any salmon, but I'm glad to say we successfully landed a few pints and, unlike the fish we might have caught, we didn't return any of them!

Thank you Roy for your company maybe we could try again when the weather is warmer and more fish in the river Still no guarantee but fishing is a lot better than looking at a toaster Cheers Iain 🥃. PS I'll be in touch soon.

Check out how many belters of Salmon the Tummel East Haugh Beat it has had over 40 this season already and fish off Moulinearn Beat, below the dam must be doing well too unless they are going through into Loch Fascally.

I was fortunate to have fished East Haugh in the eighties and nineties and had more days with fish than fishless days. the fish that you see me holding is of the top pool and weighed 17lb I new a couple of the syndicate owners Don and John and was lucky that I used to get invited to fish there when there was a greater number of fish went through to ladder Cheers Iain 🥃
