It's always a good feeling to pull those big slab crappie in the boat. They really get your heart pumping. I've moved up shallow and the spawn is just starting. I let several of the 10 - 11 inch female crappie that were full of eggs go back. The big slabs stayed with me.

The man isn't lying. I gave it a shot yesterday, and the only crappie I caught were on blue/white jigs. let me add that I caught very few crappie too. I got up the creek and got the word that somebody had tore em up on pink jigs!!! Gotta add that to my arsenal!!!

I managed to catch several slabs in the 14-16 inch range on the 25th down in the lake at Broken Bow. they were mainly in about 14 ft of water on orange and yellow primarily. then caught them on pink bass assassins, on the 25th it was chartreuse but then settled on blue and white bodies similar to your Popsicle style. they were slow and scattered but very beautiful fish, the chunky thick slabs that get your heart going. a few very super soft bites but most wanted it. I searched for the smaller males closer to the bank but the cold front had dropped the water temps by almost 6 degrees and they seemed to have moved deeper or had lock jaw. the ones with eggs weren't quite there yet in development. I actually caught several on a slow drift, well as slow as the wind blew, LOL keep up the good work

Good job and good video ! I prefer casting into brush piles also, something about feeling the 'tick' instead of just watching a cork . Same with a jig pole, the thump is addicting . When casting i like to use a twirl tail type jig with a very light head . 1/16 or even 1/32 when i can get away with it. If wind is a factor i may need to go a little heavier. The twirl tail seems to fall slower and leaves the bait in the strike zone a little longer. Keep the videos coming , we enjoy them . tj

Good Information. Do think that crappie pull back from the shallows when night time temperatures drop to mid 40's. Also, how does heavy rains that raises the lake level a foot or more effect the spawn?

Actually sometimes it's reversed when it's warm during the day and cold at night. Especially if it is a rocky bank or lake. During the day the shoreline heats up and when it cools off at night they will move up shallow to control their body temps with the warmer rocks on the shoreline. Heavy rains is a different factor. They usually don't like sudden changes in their environment. This will shut them down until they adjust to the new water. They normally don't like rising water but falling water is fine.
