Spring Vintage Stereo Haul

In this video, we go over a bunch of vintage stereo equipment that we just got in from customers who wanted to unload some nice pieces sitting around their homes just gathering dust.
As with all of our equipment, we go over it all to make sure it will give someone years of vintage audio joy.

I realize we are really just “stewards” of these beautiful vintage pieces. Yes, at one time we own them, use them (hopefully), and then pass them along when it’s time for our paths to separate. I wish I had the knowledge back in my younger years to keep these old pieces (and boxes/manuals) to recirculate to the adoring crowd vs leaving them on top of the trash bin for the junkers to take. At least I know this now…at 62.

Those JBL speaker L-56 speakers are only good at low listening levels.... they will bottom out if you crank them up too high

Great haul there, love that 1980 of course and everything looks super clean. As for your space issues, I stack all my receivers that are in limbo Vertically, have done that for 30 years. Saves a lot of space and does no harm, at least that I know of.

Nice harvest indeed! The Pioneer 1980 is a beast, I have never seen one. I know a guy online somewhere commented that he refuses to work on 'em any longer, he's getting too old and they're too big & awkward to move around on his bench.

Just this past week got an Akai AA-1150 after doing some searching inspired by your recent mention of the AA-1030. Haven’t fully wrung it out completely yet, but the aux input and amplifier sections are working nicely. Very cool styling with the window wrapping around the tuning knob. I fear that my subscribing to your channel will turn out to be an expensive mistake! Far too much temptation!

The problem with the Pioneer SX-1980 is that it weighs 78 pounds. The Pioneer SX-980 weighs 42 pounds, which is more manageable. The SX-980 also has 80 watts of power. That is plenty of power, and it will cost thousands of dollars less than the SX-1980 that has 270 watts of power. Most speakers cannot even handle that much power.

270 Watts per channel was a serious underestimate. Most people testing these things are reporting 500 watts plus per channel! Dang!

The word is out. You will probably reap enormous hauls as people would rather sell their old gear to you to repair and resell than throw them away. Second life anyone? I live too far away and my set ups are great enough, but I would love to live nearby and press my face up against the glass counters and smell the heat coming off the electronics.

The Pioneer are not rarer you just have to have the money on hand to pay the price on bidding eight to fifteen thousand but finding one with a nice box and paper work is hard. I own three 1980 and one as the box and paper work with the 1974 receipt and had to drive five hundred miles each way to get it .

Hey guys just wondering I have a Akai GX 230 reel to reel it works I'm sure it needs a good service are they worth much also have a Sansui AU 717 amp with the box works fine and also a SAE 1800 Parametric EQ has left line attenuate slider end broke off stiil can slide it and Scott R376 reciever just wondering what is a fair value I'm by Rockford IL. Pioneer units still have no appeal to me ~ probably never will compared to other Japanese companies' receivers. Getting into hifi in the late 70s & 80s, they were never even in the conversation.
