I was studying art at Stellenbosch University at the time and remember watching their first ever gig on a Wednesday night (I think) in a small bar called Upstairs in September 1994. A few of my classmates knew one or two of them so along we went for shits and giggles and beers. It was truly a breath of fresh air. Here were 5 cross-dressing, English singing Afrikaans speaking Stellenbosch boys, with their mixture of punk rock, ska, acid jazz and heavy metal - loud, controversial and unapologetic. They emerged on the scene about the same time as the US grunge scene was exploding globally and shook the local music scene, going on to become the voice of a generation. I have subsequently watched them in London and when they opened for U2 in Cape Town in 2011 but nothing will replace the rawness and coarseness of that night.

:) mooi bly

These guys were the soundtrack of my teenage years. I grew up in Amanzimtoti and remember they played a gig right on the beach. a couple thousand peeps going bossies in the sand. A few years later I worked as a stage hand at an INXS gig at Westridge stadium, circa, 1997, Nude Girls opened for them, they literally blew the whole place apart with their performance, INXS were a total let down after that Nude Girls gig. Man what memories!
@lanier1000 Жыл бұрын
I can easily see that. INXS, after about 1984 were never the same again. They went so lame-o commercial. They sold out. I'd much rather see this band. .

We had so much natural music talent amongst others the world did not get a chance to experience, and the truth about that country died with it, and will never ever be seen or known again.
