National service in the 1980’s listening to Robin Alexander in the early hours of the mornings ....man what fond memories my Mom used to always tell us to enjoy life while we were young as we will never get them back but how do you explain that to a youngster...great and such innocent times....sad though.

Wow! What a beautiful trip down memory lane! Springbok Radio was a significant part of my childhood, I grew up with it. My dad bought my sister a transistor radio in the early 70s, and I still remember how my sister, my brother and I would excitedly focus our ears to the radio to listen to the programmes, we enjoyed every moment of the dramas, the comedies , the music, the news etc Those were fun days of radio broadcast. Thank you so much SABC, and thank you Springbok Radio for adding to our lives so much joy, and excitement. We will never forget those days! God bless you all!

I worked in the Springbok Radio studios in Broadcast House in Comissioner Street. I worked daily with Eric Egan on the morning show . Eric drove a car with a Coffee Pot as a mascot on the front of the bonnet. We were collected at home daily from 4am in an SA Broadcasting kombi and taken to work , opened the building and prepared for the days broadcast. Springbok radio had 2 main studios next to one another. We called them the "Fishbowls" as visitors used to take tours through Broadcast House and peer at us working through large glass windows on one side of Studio2. The day started in Studio 1 and at midday moved to studio 2. All advertising was done on records which were stored along one wall of the studio. Many of the programs were on tape and some even on long playing records such as "Dr Livingstone MD" which was a large disk that played from the centre outrwards. FOND MEMORIES indeed. Those were the good old days.

Sir, you were part of a golden era in South African Broadcasting. The actors, writers and voice-over artists were world-class. Could hold there own anywhere. Such a shame many were 'put out to pasture' when Television started in SA.

I was in primary school during the mid fifties,later on in the afternoon, I wood listen to Superman and when that series ended,there was Adventure Man. The Man With A Hu dred Faces And A Hundred Voices, Adventure Man! There was music for all tastes,from pop,country,classic some opera,religious and a host of other music.I do not listen to the radio any more,most of the mucic if you can call it that,is awful.There is no more theater of the mind,it has been destroyed by television. Reguards from,Michael Jonathan Lewis,Allan's-Nek,Roodepoort, JHB, RSA.

Although I now live in Exeter, Devon, and absolutely love it, as a young school boy I lived in South Africa from, October, 1964, aged 11, to June 1969, aged 16. After this date, my sister, Stella and I moved to England, to be with our mother, Anne. Whilst in South Africa, we lived with the rest of the family : father, Raymond, step-mother, Gene, step-sister, Jackie and half-sister, Charlotte. Oaklands farm, Blanco near George, was the last place we lived at. Listening to Springbok was wonderful.

Even though Springbok Radio ended three years before my time on earth, there's just something else to it, something very real. I appreciate it and thank those who were part of it. SQUAD CARS is just the best of all, I must say. And our Miss Brookes is just as good a classic me and my partner dearly enjoy. I would suggest some ' back in the day' hit music shows, Friday nights on the Springbok Radio Preservation Society website, especially between Squad Cars and Gunsmoke (as is the current schedule) or right after Gunsmoke. Keep up the good work. Love it. Just love it.

We - Hubby and I - often listen to snippets of our old South Africa, and tonight a tune started to play in my head, and doing "da da da" I was surprised that I knew every note off by heart... Curious as to which theme song it was, I immediately thought of our old "Everybody Listens to Springbok Radio"... Unfortunately, I didn't hear it. Listened to two video recordings. Was wondering if perhaps you could put together a compilation of all the theme songs for this very well-loved and -remembered radio station... Warmest wishes to all, raine and pierre :-}
